Ever since I've been a member on this site (too long to think about ) I've read several posts about America, by Americans and their "freedoms". A lot of Americans are very quick to mention these...
Call me ignorant (hopefully not, and I' trying not to be), I'm just trying to figure out what "your" "freedoms" are, and are they any different than say what, at least most of Europe are enjoying, as "freedoms"?? Is it something we should all want, from a "western" perspective??

Wow, something realy interesting to debate I'm not sure if total freedom for a nation or sovereign state is such a good thing after all. If we look at so called free country's like the U.S and U.K, are they any better than totallitarian regimes? We are fat and greedy and raping the world of it's resources in the name of freedom. Isolated and non P.C countrys only use their limited supplys of food and wealth just to survive. Western country's have all but destroyed the world with global finance and total inconsideration of the third world.

Every country has it's own set of freedoms. In the US we are more aware of them as there is always someone (usually on the left) who wishes to modify a freedom to suit their own wishes.

There is an arrow at the top of your web browser (coincidentally pointing to the left) that allows you to return to the previous page if you read something that offends your tender sensibilities.

Does your brain actually work or do you have a subroutine on an eprom that just keeps telling you to spout this constant diahorrea regardless of anything else.If I had a filter to shut you out I'd use it but other folks on here actually think before they speak.

You'll find that back button in the upper left hand corner of the browser window. Failing that, ALT and the left arrow will have the same effect.
I think you'll find it a much more satisfying experience than having a mod drift by and remove your posting privilege for a week. Don't you?

and conversely, those on the right modify our freedoms to suit their own pockets

You have no more freedom in the US than you do in Germany or France. I only mention those countries because I know the systems and what is and isn't permitted.
The notion of Freedom in US stems is essentially a historical one that refers back to the days when people in Europe were oppressed and exploited.

When I was about 17 a fellow in his 70s told me "You've lost rights you never even knew you had."
Bruno & Godsgift can hopefully confirm, but I believe their freedoms come from Bill of Rights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Bill_of_Rights), which is part of US Constitution.
Biggest difference I see is regarding the right to bare arms & to defend your property. Very different in UK but am glad that we generally do not have direct access to fire-arms, though gangs seem to be able to get them no problem....
As to something we all want, I would expect not as that is why our cultures differ & how our society's views differ, though in a lot of cases it makes no difference to the major powers in the world

Proofreading or not, I got your point..
And that was sort of the point I thinking of as well, that the differences aren't that big, but seems to me that Americans are more "fixated" about the "freedoms"... Do we take them for for granted??

In all reality I doubt there is really alot of difference. We have just been raised to cherish and be proud of the freedoms that we have, and we just like to scream it from the rooftops, I guess..

Ive never heard of a country with more freedom, and a lot with less so I guess we just like to brag.
