.....a feeling of oneness with the universe, a transcendence of self, or a moment of deep insight? What happened? What was the spiritual message?

I suppose that dejavu's count. I used to have them a lot but it seems when you get older you loose the connection or whatever.
I do remember one very distinct dejavu. We were in Belgium for the first time and our mothers family came to pick us up in Brussels. It was dark and we had been driving for quite a long time when I got an overwhelming dejavu the strongest I have ever had. I looked at my sister and I knew by the look on her face that she was having one too. This made it even weirder. We asked where we were. It was the center of the town where my mother was born and also the town where we ended up moving to 8 months later. Before this we knew nothing of Belgium or of the town where my mother had lived because she always refused to talk about it.

Does this count Smoky?

Oh, lots of times, the fleshiest one was today:

I took my mobile from my purse for recharging and though that it would be good if my baby-girl would phone me right now when I wasn’t that busy – was cooking rice and eggs for fish and prawn salad.

And as soon as I left the kitchen – she phoned!

The spiritual massage was: “Mama, send some money” though she didn’t say it straight out. But I understood nonetheless and asked: “How much?”

I don’t like my moments of deep insight

grin

rolling on the floor laughing Ja, I`ve had a couple of "those" moments too!

My youngest son was at an agricultural training college way far from home and I had this feeling to phone him - but it was usually a long tiresome process of calling the pay-box in the foyer of the school and then waiting while someone went to find him.........

... This time, I asked the young man who answered to go call him, and heard "Is that YOU mom? I been standing here wanting to phone you but I had no money .... Can you send me some?"......grin

Not quite the "mystical experience" I had in mind though.

Ja, of course it counts! Anything "mystical" ........

But I disagree about it fading with age/time. I think it gets stronger? ... As long as one doesn`t get too cynical, I guess?

Being close to nature and preferably in silence...such as while swimming in the southern ocean here in Australia with no-one around...the warm sea water wrapping itself around me...the sun is going down on the horizon...smitten

I call it trusting my belly...my initial gut feeling. And I've never been proven wrong.

And when I don't listen to my gut instinct things basically go pear shaped in my life...

Twenty odd years ago is indeed a long time and you still remember that! Your mystical experience ought to be a very extraordinary one.

I get a bit nervous talking about these things because I find them a bit unsettling and I think it makes me sound kooky!. When i lived in Africa I saw/felt/witnessed some oddities, but always managed to find a rational scientific answer to justify the occurrence. Only once did I experience a very clear moment of insight This happened in Canada. I was at my brother's house on a sunny afternoon, we were sitting outside drinking wine and chatting. A bird flew into the house and from our spot outside we could see it panicking and thrashing around. It was very loud and chaotic. I can't remember if it got out. My niece and nephew and sister-in-law were shouting. Dogs barking. Very loud and chaotic. I felt a huge calm inside and a very distinct thought came to my mind. 'Christian will die, Samson will die'. There was no panic in my heart. Just a weird cold nothingness. About 2 or 3 months later my first husband (Christian) died. We were in a car heading for this brother's house and we got hit by another car. Sammy the dog died not less than a month later. This 'thing' has never happened again since. I effin' hated it.

A mystical experience is a life changing experience and lasts for weeks - even months. It's like looking into muddy waters and seeing what's there...

Very true .... looking into muddy waters .......

I had a very very disturbing dream once ... very "symbolic" ... but I could never quite figure out what it meant. It was so impressed on my brain I could even draw the figures afterwards - still can. When I drew the main figure a good friend of mine pointed out the likeness to someone I knew, and trusted, but I scoffed.

A few years later - this person did the most awful deed towards me,(had been doing secretly all that time) and during that time, one day, I was sitting in a certain position and what I saw matched EXACTLY to the final moment of my dream .... and I finally KNEW and SAW the sequence of that whole dream. It had been like a warning (when there was no need for a warning i.m.o. then) ... but it was too uncanny to not be true.

Strange, very strange - how the subconcious knew?

You're quite right, but I could harldly function in normal society for about a year - that's how high I was on the mystics.
Some people thought that I was doing drugs.
