Do you filter your water before making a cup of tea or just fill kettle up straight from tap? dunno

If you're having a cold drink or even for cooking do you filter or even buy bottled spring water? dunno

Why is some bottled water so much more expensive than other brands? Does it come from a "posh" spring with lower or higher levels of pottasium, sodium and whatnot?.. Or do we just pay more because it's a branded name? uh oh

Lastly, can anyone taste the difference between tap water and filtered water in their hot drinks or even cold drinks? laugh

wave heck yes, I forgot about water tasting different in hard and soft water areas. Maybe Scotland is soft water area. I know Hulls hardwater area. Probably Londons hard water area too dunno

I've got one of those kettles with filter in the top but not sure if I can taste difference or not laugh ...Yet, plenty of people I know say they definitely can tell the difference so maybe I've just lost my taste buds laugh

The bottled water I buy for the birds as it always advises it in the birdbooks. It says if they have tap water they're risk of lead poisoning. This is how I noticed difference in the prices of bottled water. It varies from £1.10 to 24p uh oh so I just buy them 2 bottles of the 24p stuff and it lasts them a week laugh

The water straight from the tap in East Kent is very hard as the soil is chalk based.

Therefore as the taste is also affected by the amount of Cloride and Fluoride the French owned Souther water add to it as well, drinking it from the tap, Tea and coffee always tastes dreadful.

So for practicalpurposes and taste I have two 1.5 litre filter jugs and change the filters once monthly.

Mmmm..........

Your worried about giving the birds lead poisoning, but not yourself!! Strange...........

Nowadays water pipes are made from copper or plastic, not lead, as they were many years ago. So unless you have an very old house, there isn't much chance of lead poisoning.

wave Ah, it would take more than a good dose of lead poisoning to see me off laugh Not so sure about the birds though uh oh I once dreamt their bellies got all limescaled up and I had to descale them with kettle/iron descaler!

I agree with what you said about water pipes not been made from lead nowadays. Although, I did take my other cockatiel to the vets a few years ago and he diagnosed her with lead/heavy metal poisoning and told me to be careful which water I gave her. Maybe he was mistaken though dunno

When on walking holidays in the Alps or Lake District I like to fill my drinking bottle from the mountain streams.

My brother thought I was crazy.

"What if you catch something? What if there's a dead sheep just upstream?"

So, after a bit of persuasion, I managed to get him to take the taste test. My stream water against his tap water.

The stream water won. The tap water tasted metallic and greasy compared to the fresher purer stream water.

Coming back to the OP. Yes I can taste the difference between different waters. But no, I don't bother filtering it. It's just not something that takes a high priority in my life.

But if I ever go on a cruise holiday again I'd be tempted to take something to filter out the chlorine that they put in the tap water. I found that chlorine has a similar effect to bromine.
