Come on now. Car. Radio. Hairdryer. Money. Sofa. Pen. Paper.Computer. So...how important are material possessions in the lives of humans? And how do material possessions shape humans? And how do humans shape material possessions?
Material things are very important to people. I think we have a deep down need to 'own' things to make our lives more comfortable and attract a mate! (Think I'm going back a few thousand years here).
But now, most of us have soooo much stuff it's become suffocating. It's great to have a good clear out once in a while and just keep hold of what you either really need or just really value.
Businesses rely on our need to possess something which is why they spend so much money convincing us that we just can't live without the latest gadget.
If I had to choose a couple of things I couldn't be without - not including sentimental stuff and necessaries like clothes etc - then I think I would choose my lippy! Or maybe my mascara? tough one, that
Materialistic things aren't too important to me. I'm a bit of a free spirit so don't like to be surrounded or tied down with too much baggage. In an emotional or material sense. Plus, I was brought up in a slum in the 60s in poverty so was never used to much in the way of material things.
I realise that not everyone has same way of thinking though. Many people I know are obsessed with having a car, latest TV, flashy sofa, furniture etc so guess they are materialistic with a capital "M" Also, and this probably has nothing to do with thread subject but more of an observation I make The people who have more clutter and materialistic things are often insecure, lonely and so surround themselves with "mental material furniture"

Well, I suppose I do rely on my 40 years old racing bike to get me about. But as for my mobile. I have it turned off most of the time. Same as my landline. I'm very elusive to get hold of.. drives my work bosses mad
