...I think back a little and realise that for most of my adult life I was living life in a bubble,a time when everything in the garden was rosy and I almost never, ever reflected back.

Round about 40 got a really big wake up call an stepped out of the bubble, not cause I was forty, jus so happened that that was when things cascaded down on me.

Now not sure if life in the bubble was better (ignorance is bliss)than harsh reality (expereience is hell)....do I try to get back into the bubble,is it possible or just stay the way I am ?

What´s living in a bubble? Feeling protected and cosseted? If so, that stops for most people when they reach adulthood and start fending for themselves doesn´t it? You´re lucky if you stayed inside your bubble until 40!

We encourage our young to burst their bubbles, be independent, (well not so much here in Spain) and go out into the big bad world.

That´s a good thing I believe.

Remember that old tv programme The Prisoner?

If things are going well, it's easy to coast through life. It's only when we hit problems that we realise this is the real world. Most people don't even get the experience of everything in the garden is rosy, for some, life is one long struggle.

Be thankful for the good times and learn from the bad. I'm not the same person I was 30 years ago, nor would I want to be. My life experiences have made me the person I am and I realise you have to love and respect yourself before you expect anyome else to.

I think that once the bubble is burst that it is impossible to go back. Reality is something you deal with.
Stay fit in body and mind and enjoy the little things like being fascinated by ants protecting aphids on a plant (I did that one summers day for about an hour it was amazing)

venere08: Ah, EFT. Great to hear that, Robert.

Keep tapping, you will get there. Maybe tap on the resentment?

Do you also you it for yourself? The EFT I mean

You can download the entire manual off the official EFT site.

I think I may have been a little misunderstood here,or perhaps didn,t make myself clear, tho Jan got closest to it.

I wasn,t carping on about the past,I was just seeking points of view about the passage from innocence to experience really,(Great English Poet William Blake dealt with this subject in his Songs of Innocence and Experience as did American author J.D.Salinger in his seminal novel Catcher in the Rye).

What I was asking was,is it better to go back to blissfil ignorance (if that was possible)or to continue to confront reality with eyes wide open ? Is it better to face full on the true horrors of what it can be to be alive or do you cover your eyes when it comes to the scary bit in the film at the movies ?

I wasn,t carping on about the past,I was asking a valid question relating to the human condition.

Clear ?

Thanks guys.grin

PS Joseph Conrad also addressed this thing in The Heart of Darkness (" Oh the horror, the horror....").

NOT true!

You've carped on the past almost ad infinitum!

The thing is thisd - people like you!

The past is dead, deceased, gone 'forever'....... we ALL need to move on - myself as well as everybody else!

"Where shall I look for Enlightenment?" the disciple asked.
"Here," the elder said.
"When will it happen?" the disciple asked.
"It is happening right now," the elder answered.
"Then why don`t I experience it?" the disciple persisted.
"Because you do not look," the elder said.
"But at what?" the disciple asked again.
"At anything your eyes alight upon," the elder answered.
"But must I look in a special kind of way?" the disciple went on.
"No. The ordinary way will do," the elder said.
"But do`t I always look the ordinary way?" the disciple said.
"No, you don`t," the elder said.
"But why ever not?" the disciple asked.
"Because to look you must be here. You`re mostly somewhere else," the elder said.

I think I know what you mean here. I was once innocent and then got my eyes opened in ways that shocked me. The things people are capable of doing to others was pointed out to me, and it shocked me right out of the bubble I lived in. Things have never been the same since.

It is like some sort of limbo, waiting for something to make things "right" again. I think it has to do with the absence of love and caring, decency and all the moral and ethical values that some people hold dear. Values that they think they are beyond reproach.

A bit like the world failing to meet their standards. I don't think it has to do with the past either, more like a lack of purpose maybe. For me it is a state of stasis.

Maybe I have this all wrong, but it is how I see it. . . . .

I forgot to add, thing is, you can't go back to innocence... ever...... It is just not possible without a lobotomy or something, so that sense of security and peace that innocence brings with it, is lost forever.

Well Rob,one or two things.

1.Yes of course I talk about the past,we all do.See the past is right up to thre second which has just passed
grin

2.I also talk about the present.

3.I talk about a very wide range of subjects, some of which I am better informed about than others.

4.Re this particular thread,I stand by my later qualification that what I was asking was,is it better to go through life with your eyes closed or wide open ? Agreed,I introduced the subject with a referance to my personal past, though only in a very general way,not with any referance to any particular, singular event.

5.The past is not dead, gone forever. We are all constantly revisiting the past to see if we can see it from a different perspective,to see if new can learn something new from it.

6.Nearly all the information you ever receive is about the past,tv,films,newspapers,art,science....even your personal conversations.

7.So calm down and tell me what you doing tomorrow. You gonna live it in a bubble or what ?grin laugh
