There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is YESTERDAY with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.YESTERDAY has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back YESTERDAY.We cannot undo a single act we performed;we cannot erase a single word we said.
YESTERDAY is gone.
The other day we should not worry about is TOMORROW with its possible adversaries, its burdens, its large and poor performance.TOMORROW is beyond our immediate control.
Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds-but it will rise.Until it does,we have no stake in TOMORROW,for it is as yet unborn.

This leaves only one day...TODAY.
Any person can fight the battle of just one day.
It is only when you and I add the YESTERDAY and TOMORROW that we break down.
It is not the experience of TODAY that drives people mad---it is remorse or bitterness for something which happened YESTERDAY and the dread of what TOMORROW may bring.
LET US THEREFORE,LIVE....BUT FOR TODAY!

This is such an interesting thought - and so 'in fashion' - "Live for today", "Live for the moment", "Carpe diem".

And the above quotation from the OP is wonderfully true - handling one day at a time is a perfect way to enjoy life, and also to deal with adversities. It can often be the only way to go forward during tough times.

But on the other hand - if we never look back, how can we learn from our mistakes? And how can we remember good times, which can be a comfort in a troubled today?

And if we never look forward - how can we see the consequences of our actions? Does this make us more prone to acting irresponsibly? And how can we make plans for our future - like saving for kid's schooling or our retirement?

I find this one a bit tricky, myself - but I am sure there is a way to pick out the best and most reasonable raisins from this cake that is life.

hmmm

Looking back over the past and keeping the door open and living in the past are two dufferent things...I agree.

I ALSO agree that the past has to be dealt with because it's hard living in the PRESENT if I'm carrying 1998-2009 on my back.

As for the future,I think there's nothing wrong with planning for the future,personal,career,retirement,etc....but I TRY not to predict the result, because I'm setting myself up for diappointment if it doesn't happen, from past experience....but that's just my opinion.
