Every since I was a little kid, I have this horrid nightmare that my dead grandfather is standing in my bedroom doorway looking at me. I never know if I am awake or dreaming and it scares the holy hell out of me.

Last night I had a dream that I was lying in my bed in my bedroom and was being suffocated or killed or something, I don't know. I was trying desperately to call out. I was awoken (in real life) by the person who was lying beside me who was in an absolute panic because the person touched me and I freaked out, making this horrible wailing cry like some sort of an animal in a trap. We were both terrified. This morning we laughed our heads off, but last night, boy was it scary.

Have you got nasty nightmares that make you feel like you are 7 years old in the dark of the night?

Funny you say that Elley about the cheese. I have very bad food allergies (lactose, gluten, certain fruits) and I fu**** up yesterday and had some cream in a cup of coffee. I was quite unwell in the evening and to boot, went to a strange disco bowling thing where the shadows and dry ice conjured up weird images in my head....so maybe the combination did it.

Or...maybe I am just psycho!!!

mumbling

funny about the knives. My mom always hides the kitchen knives when we have odd house guests..

Oh, I can be absolutely terrified, but not in the middle of the night… but at Saturday/Sunday morning. I wake up in fear that I’ve overslept and will come too late to work.

You see, my organism isn’t used to sleep that much, it takes some time for it to adjust to leisure… and when it’s adjusted, it’s already a Monday again. I hate Mondays…help

I did as a kid so your not alone. I had two different recurring nightmares. The one was the "boogy man" strange thing is that this name crops up in various countries and with various people. It was a dream comparable to your grandfather but the boogy man gets in closer to right above you. The last time I had it was in 1971 when I was 19. I had it almost every night 6 months straight when I was about 8.
The other one was the rinocerous dream. I had it after seeing the movie "Hatari". I went on having that one for about 6 months every night when I was about 10. There was an evolution to that one though. It started out always about the same but went a little further every time.
Last real bad nightmare I had was after reading the book "The Shining" (Steven King or is it ph). So waking up from a doosy I was talking to myself saying "ok it was just a nighmare calm down it will pass deep breaths" at that instant the bedroom door creaked open from the wind. Believe me you do not want that to happen when trying to get yourself calm after a nighmare.
My whole body jumped about 50 Cms blankets and all.
My sister had brought me about 5 King novels which I returned unread.rolling on the floor laughing

Hi Woofman wave

It's horrible innit! Stephen King's 'IT' did it for me. That horrid clown. And...the wind thing is also awful. Doors creaking because of wind always freaks me out even though I can logically rationalize it. I blame my 'freak outs' on having an African mother who sees weird stuff all the time...Yuck!!!

Imma, consult a Dream Analyst - and when you understand why you have that type of dream, it will go away. Dreams are subconscious worries/fears that show up in bizarre ways you cant make sense of. But when you finally can know why, they dont re-appear.

In my instance, I just happened to be seated next to an old guy at a dinner party, and for want of conversation I asked him what he does ......... You know hey what he was? And then he said he`d analyse a dream for me .. did I ever have any unpleasant dream I remembered that puzzled me?..... Oh YES, I did!

I had regular dreams about being in some place and underneath was dark flowing water, scarry dark ... either the floorboards were rotten, or I was balancing on something, afraid of falling into that water......

His analysis was: I was afraid of investigating my spirituality - Dark running water means ones Spirituality, and the fact of being afraid of it, meant I was afraid of "going there".

Having a puritan Baptist mother who was dogmatic about anything esoteric, warning against reading books of other religions, etc etc ......"opening the doors to satan" type of finger wagging admonitions ..... I now indulged myself reading the old books I always wanted to read ... the Koran, the Book of Mormon, practicing Tai Chi, Feng Shui, Herbal and Reiki Healings, etc...... NO MORE DARK WATER DREAMS!

Hello Miss Smoky,
I do think I should have some analyzed as the same dreams repeat from my childhood, but I really get mixed up sometimes as to whether or not I am dreaming or seeing weirdness while just drifting off to sleep. Odd. When I tell my mom about it, she pulls up strange African mumbo jumbo stuff which ends up scaring me more than the dream ever did. Ah well...
