Just for the purpose of discussion, did you ever have a 'spiritual' experience outside of your (waking) consciousness? If so, did you just discount it, thinking it was your imagination, or did it teach you a truth about existence?

I will tell you I was married to a woman who was about as in touch with her spirituality as these atheists. What I did was a nine day novena to St.Jude, my request was that she would become spiritual. On the second day of the novena she came home with the movie The Secret, it felt like a miracle had occured.

This happened to me while I was watching the three stooges. I thought , holy crap, dam you for interrupting the 3 stooges! Then it came to me like a bolt of spaghetti spit from a noodle machine.. "the 3 stooges are god" who else has the power to interrupt themselves? I was finally at peace, but now I avoid spaghtetti at all costs.

I know it was not my imagination, but was an experience of being born of the Truth. A lesson learned which left me with an understanding of our life, the death of our bodies, and our purpose of life, its Love.

Did you steal your energy theory from the 3 stooges, everyone goes to heaven because they are made of energy and no one can go to hell because they are made of energy. Thats the theory right, who first said it Moe, Larry , Curly or yourself. dont you like my use of you emoticon style, it really drives the point home.

there is no theory and luckily for you there is no ridicule otherwise you'd fail at it miserably.
There is a similar thread to this just two pages back ..
"Those who don't believe in God or Jesus, why don't you?"
To paraphrase my response on that thread - Jesus existed - he was an historical character, lived, breathed, etc. Do I believe he is the Son Of God? No. Because I do not believe that God exists in reality (see other thread for reasons).
So, have I ever had a spiritual experience? No, I dont think so - what does it feel like? How would I know if I have had one?
I am sure that some people genuinely believe that they have had some kind of experience of God.. Personally, I think that they have not experienced God as such, but they have had some kind of connection in their mind (the brain is incredibly complex as you know) But if thats what they believe, then that is their business.
I am sure also that some people who claim to have experienced a spiritual experience are faking it for whatever reason - financial gain or whatever...

I cant decide if your question is asked in kindness or if its just another thinly veiled attempt at witnessing - whichever reason, dont you think this is all now verging on obsessive compulsive type behaviour?
Why is it so difficult for you to understand that we dont hold the same views as yourselves?
In case it is a genuine question, yes, I saw the light, it was a dawning realisiation that millions of people have been conned by a power and money hungry organisation who have historically stopped at nothing to build and maintain said power.

Just my opinion.

I know there is a thread like this. I wanted to put a different twist on it. Thanks for your view!

It was a sincere question, I know better than to "witness" and have no desire to do so unless someone asks me about my belief.
I was curious about spiritual experience - if it was only validated as true by those who believed in some type of after life.

The "mind" is a wonderous thing.... it can make us believe anything we want, especially if another "mind" is brainwashing it !
Certain drugs can also warp the mind in a similar way, so who is to say we should "believe" anything our mind tells us ?
Some of us have minds of our own.... with logic and reasoning and don't need other minds telling us what to believe, or drugs for that matter !

What kind of connection? Their belief and their unconscious mind? What if it did not come from their unconscious, but gave them insight/information they did not have before? I guess these are somehow still their mind in your view?
Steve5721: Well said...they do like to push the issue down peoples throats.
You misunderstood the question, which I attempted to clarify in another parts of this thread. It appears these types of experiences are held mainly by those who believe in some type of higher power or after life.

I am spritual, not religious... I do believe in a higher power but not an afterlife.
I have never had an out of body experience as I am too busy trying to live in this body.
I will keep an open mind on whether I will actually experience such a phenomina in my lifetime, and I see no reason to make a connection to a higher power, if I did.

Sorry, I didnt mean an emotional or religious type connection - I meant a physical electrochemical impulse in the brain between sinapses that leads to thought generation.
In their view, they may well get a sudden thought that they think is insight / information that they did not have before - inspiration if you like.. and they may attribute that to a higher power. That's their belief.
But yes, you are right - in my view, I think that it is still within their own mind : they may see / hear / feel something that they attribute to a higher power, but this could be just be the result already having beliefs - a case of fitting the facts to their belief , if you like ..

Spirituality isnt up for ownership by those who believe in God - there are many forms of spirituality. As an Atheist, I still marvel at the beauty of our existence but I dont call it God - you can have that concept for yourselves, gladly, but spirituality is an entirely different matter.
