I luuuuuuuuuuuuurve train journeys .. they're so relaxing In fact I really luuuuuuuuuuurve sleeper trains have been on sleepers through Thailand and India
But I'm most happy on a plane because it means Im going somewhere further afield ... or even overseas
HAWK270: Hey just curious whats the cost of living like in your area? I never been out of The USA YET.
Do you mean Cyprus or Australia? I've never been to the USA so can't compare. It's getting more expensive to live in Cyprus since we joined the EU but a lot of things are still cheaper than the UK, although food is quite expensive. Cyprus is still a wonderful place to live though!
if it possible,i think high speed train is better for traveling, coz people are talking about "going green" nowadays,so train defintely will be a good way for traveling.
I do a lot of bus trips (day and overnight). Never had the opportunity to travel by train but I think I would enjoy it. Airplanes are getting tougher to have enjoyable travel.
In response to: Which do you prefere taking & Why?
I really love travelling by train and it annoys the hell out of me (what's new ) that it is cheaper to fly than take the train. I can take the train from Sheffield to Manchester and fly down to London cheaper than taking a train from Sheffield to London.
Why because airlines (even internal ones) don't pay tax on fuel whereas trains do.

I can fly to the far East cheeper than I can fly to some places in Canada. And I'm only about 80 miles from Canada. Go figure.
Depends how urgent my journey is, or just how quickly I want to get there..
Planes are obviously the most direct, and quickest way, but you get to see nothing much. With a train, you can enjoy the scenery more and see more, and with modern trains, they are very comfortable and with MUCH more leg room than your Economy Class!
Buses, I find take a tad TOO long, and can be too cramped, if you are over Hobbit Height..
If I was travelling relatively short distances, and I had no time constrictions, I would definately use a train..
The train. I like being able to look at the landscape, and having the room to walk around in the cars if I like. The trains here in Taiwan are great, and railroad travel in Canada has always been national, not regional. Plus, trains don't have to stop for crossing traffic or red lights as cars and buses do.
As for the others, buses are filthy and I doubt any of them have ever had their seats steam cleaned. The idea of sitting for more than an hour in a cramped space next to stinking, open-mouth-chewing individual is abhorrent.
And I'm a white knuckler when it comes to flying. I know it's safe, that less than 5% of all airplane crashes happen on "first world" airlines (e.g. Canada, US, Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Australia) but that doesn't make it any more comforting. And no, I don't believe in fairy tales and prayer.
Personally, I think air travel is dead. It's only a matter of time before oil prices make it impractical and rail becomes the dominant means of travel across land. In 20 years, air travel will be limited to cross-ocean destinations.
Note the OP's location, Kentucky. He's a landlubber. Most people today live inland, it's not like 100 years ago when there were no planes and few or no cars, where ships were the most efficient way to travel.
Most boat travel today is on ferries over short distances, not cross-ocean travel.
