Do we need to make an appointment to pray to god ?

Yesterday I went cycling with my 7 year old son and stopped at two church's as both myself and my son like old buildings, at the second church we stopped at my son asked me " Daddy why are the church's always looked up, Do we need to make an appointment to pray to god"

Now this is rural England and I know their is sometimes vandalism but is this taking things a little to far I have always believed a church is there for the benefit of the believers to pray and be near to there god...........Is this just England going even more crazy or just a general thing the World over ? confused

I remember when we could leave our doors unlocked when we went out, folks all looked out for each other's property, now we have a binge drink culture of young folks with nothing better to do than go on a vandalising spree, drugs are widespread and expensive so addicts must get money from somewhere and that means robbing, churches arent immune anymore to theft or vandalism, robbers dont care who they rob, isnt it great mossopw that you're son has said such a thing, how i wish sometimes that my lass was a wee thing again..handshake

There's quite a few churches down my road. They are usually open even if for tombolas, coffee meetings. We even have our own patrolling angel

I don't think I've ever seen the main doors shut! Then again Hull isn't rural Britain laugh

I too like architecture and buildings full of character thumbs up Nicest cathedral I've been to so far was Chester Cathedral.

I forgot to add that I've only visited 2 cathedrals. Sheffield and Chester, so suppose there wasn't much competition really rolling on the floor laughing and how I ended up in Sheffield cathedral I'll never know as it was the snooker markets I went to see last year there laugh

Consider the collection box, novena light box, gold plated crosses, marble, slates, carved pews and other expensive stuff .

Then consider the theiving scrotes that are always on the look out for something not nailed down.

Thats why churches are locked up these days - especially in rural areas where there maybe one clergyman to four or five small churches ...

Sad, but thats how our country is these days..

Simple answer:

You don't need a church to pray.

Jesus never bothered finding a church or temple to pray in did he?

Of course, to give a balanced view: some would say that praying is just superstitious mumbo-jumbo.

It's up to each and every person to decide what they want to believe in.

I remember when Liverpool cathedral was build (the Catholic one). I was a small kid at the time and was told to put my pocket money in the collection that "was being put towards it!!??" roll eyes Well, I made a point of going to the sweet shop first and spending some of it before putting the change in the box - a halfpenny (remember those?)

cool

No, they're cheaper than supermarkets but not as well stocked.

They only had lots of candles, some wafers and a bit of wine shared between everyone last time I went in one.

I read somewhere many years ago that it was written in holey scripures - 'Wherever any number of people are gathered in the name of God it is just as official as any church'
or words to that effect - That by any logical yardstick means those who believe do not need official permission from amyone to pray however they wish and that in itself makes a mockery of any pope or head of any faith being elected by men.
