In sweden many men can not keep their word. I would help you with your plumbing or to put the lights up. I do not
even ask for their help they offer it.What are your experiences. Why do they offer when they do not keep their word.

But ask them why they offer something you haven’t asked for…

Or better stop to date plumbers, switch to academicians.

Okay, it was just an attempt to bring some humour into the thread.

If they aren´t living with you, and you haven´t asked them to fix anything, how do they know you need the jobs done?

You must have thrown a few hints their way no?

Anyway, rather than rely on people who make promises they don´t keep, either pay somebody to do it, or learn how to do it yourself.

I think this is more a question of different individuals, than something typical of a certain country - I'm sure this happens all over the world.

Some people might offer to help as a friendly, helpful gesture - without it necessarily being a promise. If these things are said during dates, do you keep seeing them for a while? Otherwise that might expain it... laugh

You're not reacting correctly! When a man offers to fix something round the house you should instantly smile and pull out your diary.

"How wonderful!" you say. "When can you come round? If you're going to fix the plumbing, I'll cook you a big thank-you dinner/lunch! What do you like best? Apple dumplings? Chicken curry? Ham and chicken pie? Crumble? Custard? Beef pudding? Roast lamb?"

Always works for me!

They can see it. If someone would teach me I would learn. Regarding money it is Sweden it does not work the way in Sweden .Just like now I am paying on a bill and never stopped and
have overpaid and without warning wrote the company now the government is trying to collect a bill I never stopped paying. They are like the creditors. I am not waiting for an answer to why they are involved.
I came home one day found my phone cut off. I had to clear it up during the time I suffering .Employee who listen get better jobs and pay for not helping me contract etc with their companies It is paying unfair bills keep me from paying for other to do work I have enough to live but not for unnecessary bills
which I am forced to pay

I don't think it's a nationality or gender issue. A lot of people just talk the talk, but never walk the walk. They *play* around with people's emotions.

As for the plumbing etc...don't wait around. Just get someone else to do it, or say you are going to..that will get them off their behind faster than a bullett!! EGO challenge! lol rolling on the floor laughing

Jobs like that take time and effort and they are not always easy to fit into one's schedule.

As someone already suggested, the best idea is to try to fix a time for the promised repair immediately.

Otherwise it will get put off, not intentionally but there are always other, perhaps more immediate projects waiting to fill up our schedules, so things that require some planning and tools and crossing town and perhaps even a shopping trip to get the needed parts (etc) tend to get pushed aside for that more convenient moment that may never come.

And after a certain time the project is either forgotten or has been so delayed that the guy is too embarassed to mention it again.

I know I have been guilty of this kind of thing myself in the past, and it was never intentional, but it's human nature to procrastinate on more complicated chores. One tends to fix the faucet in the next room before the one on the other side of town.

So as someone suggested, as soon as the guy says "OK" grab your agenda and fix the date and time and then be sure to remind him a few days in advance lest he forget.

The operative word being...........'think'....I talk and walk.

Thank you remind me of a cowboy very polite. If they say they cannot do it it would be ok.They just keep bragging about how helpful and great they are and always keep their word. I going to try yours and another woman suggestions
but I hope in the future I am richer or have learned how to do it. I do not like to depend opn someone else and are always asking people to teach me or let me work with them. I have learn about building fences and other things that way.By building it with someone and out down a mail post. Easy for everyone except me.
