Here is a little information about Haiti in case any of you are interested. I didn't know much about the place until I moved to the Caribbean :
• The country of Haiti makes up the western one-third of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean. Hispanola is located between Cuba and Puerto Rico and the eastern two thirds of the island is the Dominican Republic.
• The capital of Haiti is Port-au-Prince.
• Haiti is one of poorest countries in the Western hemisphere. 80% of residents live in poverty. (CIA)
• Haiti is one of the most densely populated and least developed countries in the western hemisphere.

morgan5: So awful these paope have so little even in the way of Emergency Services , really makes me count my blessings
Yes, my sentiments exactly... awful and it really puts things into perspective. Seems so silly to complain about the snow, cold and long working days now.
campoqueen: I agree its just such a shame that most of us will have forgotten all about it or any other similar event when it comes off the news headlines.
We all should count our blessings every single day that were lucky enough to live in a place thats relatively safe and easy.
Makes me feel so ashamed , when i think about the things i complain about

We are all so spoiled but sadly we dont realise it enough. Our lives are so easy that we have to complain about things that have no real importance just to keep ourselves amused. Its a pretty sad state of affairs.

Its so sad, a very poor and economically burdened country already, very poor people and to have a disaster of such magnitude is really really sad. My heart goes out to them.....if we could all say a prayer or look for a help line or support group to at least give a $1.00 it will help in some small way to do something. I really feel blessed for what i have and the life i had and thank god for small mercies.
It is a terrible shame, but help is on the way, I got an E-mail this AM from a mate in the Navy. The West Indies guardship has gone off station now and is en-route as we speak. Not a lot of help 1 ship but these guys know what there doing.
