I´m not qualified to advise, but I have a feeling that it´s your responsibility to ensure against theft or loss by, for example, having insurance.
If the landlord story is true though, surely the tenants are within their rights to complain about the stuff being thrown out.
Do you think your "friends" have anything to do with this? If so you may be able to lodge a complaint of theft with the police.

I’m not a lawyer, and certainly there are different laws in different countries… but does the explanation “the landlord threw the things out” without notification those who rent the garage hold in France? It sounds phony for me. Here in Sweden the landlord has no access to a tenant’s garage, no one else for that matter but police with a search warrant, without the tenant’s approval.
It can be a theft committed either by your “friend” or someone else with your “friend”s approval, or your “friend” just became tired of your things, or needed the space, and threw your things out. But in any case go to police and report it as a theft.

I've lost tax papers,court papers, photo's,silly things my monsters made me, personal letters from home.....lock stock and two smokin''A friend' was looking after them in her garage and when I went to collect them i discoved than 'according to them 'the landlord' turfed the lot out...
Can I charge them(anyone) with loss or theft...or just put it down to experience...

I did not ever know this ..... but that is their job ... to prosecute criminality and so they do give advice about whether or not they would prosecute in an instance like this - maybe in France they do this too?

Thats what I'm planning on doing tomorrow plus talking to a fairly high up cop I know...
I've resigned myself to losing the personal things..but I'm not letting this go...The music will be replaced and so will the guitars....But someone will pay (not just me)..i know a place not far from me where I can get free legal advice..It just beggars belief..I don't believe they (my stuff) was thrown on the street..500 cd's, guitars....personal papers (it was all in boxes).I RECKON THEY WHERE STOLEN AND THE PAPERS BURNT...
