How many of you go all out on Valentine's Day? How many of you think it's just another day to show the object of your affection that you care? In my own personal opinion, while it is nice to receive small gifts & be shown I'm thought of and appreciated, it's just another day of the year... a day for the flower shops & card stores to profit.
Just another occasion to waste lots of trees as I see it - yet another occasion for capitalist fest......
A store in England (marks and spencers) is selling a dozen red roses and a standard box of choccies for £70 - the roses normally cost about £6 and prob same for chocs - its profit driven madness and the media promotes it (more wasted trees/paper lol)
sorry to sound so cynical folks but a weed from the garden would mean more to me than buying into this rubbish.........

I think valentines day, mother's day and father's day are all just inventions by the card companies and the likes. I think they've even tried grandmother's and grandfather's day.
Then again, I'm a bitter old singleton with no kids!

I've always thought Valentine's Day sucked big time. Can anyone say OVERDONE? Basically just a day to try and make singles feel sucky for being single and force couples to go spend money and buy little tokens and other stuff they should have been doing ALL ALONG to keep the fires glowing. Oh yeah and fatten some store owners pocket.

Yes, you have a point, love. Its become rather commercially-orientated, as with most recognised occasions.
Perhaps do something a little different that doesn't cost much instead, like re-visit where you first met, arrange a lovely picnic, boat-trip, breakfast in bed, being papmered for the day, not having to do the usual house-work, etc etc...? Besides, it shows a little more effort than just paying for and writing in a card which is not exactly putting oneself out, is it?
That's not to belittle those gestures though.... each to their own.

Ooops forgot to mention the only GOOD THING about this whole day is that the range of chocolates goes up, well maybe it does serve a purpose after all. Ah chocolate.
Never been on one...we have St.Tripun day on 14th protector of wine so i usually end up pissed somewhere Young generations celebrate Valentines day as something interesting so the buy all those teddies and hearts,chocolates... I might do the same if i had someone but now ill stick to tradition of St.Tripun
Feb 14th is also the Chinese new year, so there will be plenty or real celebrating rather than the tinsel coated money grabbing pink day in the west, here they just buy what seems like gallons of mind blowing rice wine at 50-70 percent proof and about 500 yards of red and gold paper streamers to decorate the outside of houses. So no wasted money here
i liked the anonymous giving of valentines cards/flowers that we used to do when i was at school,it was much more fun trying to work out who sent them-think its kinda silly to give a card-when you can say the same in person.
