I had a bunch of those too. I'm pretty good at detecting scams, worthless rhetoric from scammers, spammers, etc.

But do sometimes when you get an email from a person with a pretty good profile but with no pic, and after they initiate contact with you they tell you they will email their pic to you on CS?

And they are a private person that don't wont to share their pic with the world etc.

You don't think they're a scammer but you're interested to message them back.

But then if they do send you their pic, they got to be prepared for rejection if you don't find a connection with their pic.

So is it best to give them a chance or completely reject faceless profiles because they might be a potential scammer?

sigh dunno uh oh

Follow your gut, Sweetheart. The bottom line here is that you always have the safety of anonymity until YOU choose to take it the next step. You're smart, you can tell if they're a scammer, even if it takes a few messages to get to that point. So, if you like a profile and it doesn't have a pic, go ahead, ask for the pic. No harm, no foul.teddybear

I don't think its fair for the faceless ones to be able to see you but you can't see them..

It would be awful to be talking to someone for ages and get to like them, Then see the pic and feel no connection like you said.

I wonder if they email faceless profiles initially. I bet they don't dunno

my experience has been that 1. either they are married so they dont want to put a pic 2. they dont have enough confidence in themselves so they dont a pic up or 3. they want to start cybering and once they get your email then they start bugging for it. so my personal experience has made it so that i no longer will communicate with people who are unwilling to post a pic and its kind of funny they have the exact same reason for not posting a pic almost like they pull it out a book lol

Not necessarily... If I were a teacher or Police officer I would't have my pictures posted...could cause some difficult situations.

I usually don't bother even reading their profiles. Why are they on here if they want to be so anonymous? Each time giving out my email address has been a mistake for me.

Experience of the more legit ones without pics is A) They do look like ming the merciless on a very bad hair day.... or

B) They tried having a pic up and got swamped with mail and didn't like it, or

C) they want their personality to be seen rather than the outside

a lot of this can e true. I work with students tho' not a teacher, I started without a photo posted till I could get idea of what online dating was all about. I have posted photos now, after getting more comfortable with the process.

The very first girl I contacted here had no photo. She seemed like a very cool lady from her posts on the forums. We became very good friends and I got photos later on. thumbs up

Realize I'm coming in here late, still I'll add another side to this issue. I met my late b/f at a game site. We talked for hours upon hours on the phone, developed a friendship and decided since there was an opportunity for free hotel in Las Vegas, why not meet there. We hadn't even shared photos. We eventually shared photos because picking one up at the airport is a tad bit difficult without knowing what the person looks like. His photo was dorky, caught unawares at work but he didn't have anything else. I had a friend take mine, sent it off. Snail mail. Neither of us had scanners or digital cameras. We actually bought the tickets and booked the room before the photos arrived in the mail. Why? Because we already sorted out that we were friends and honestly, if there wasn't a physical attraction when we met up in Vegas, we'd have a blast with a good friend.

I live in rural community and don't want my mug smeared all over the net unless I have control of who sees it. Thus there is a road. It also is symbolic.

People can connect up prior to photos, it was done well before the internet came into being through snail mail penpals, blind dates where you are told good stuff about a person etc. Personally I don't need to see a face to connect with a person initially. And if later things progress and there is plan to meet, the photo is needed for identification.

Scammers tend to USE photos, often lifted off sites that are open model photo sites, off Google or even off open Facebook pages, MySpace pages etc. The more the person looks "like a real downhome person" the more someone will believe he or she is real. That dorky pic of my b/f, I knew it was real because honestly, no one would willingly send a polaroid picture with that wacky look on the face. *chuckle* If he had been all slick and polished - like some photos I've recieved from men, from this site and other sites - then I would have really questioned if he was real.

There are many reasons why some folks don't want to show their mugs and that's cool. Besides, personally I hate the meat market type atmosphere with rating a photo of a person (and its not only here, its in many singles sites) or the meat market type atmosphere where men or women flip through looking for the "most gorgeous" or "most handsome." Ugh.

Anyhow, just some feedback on the question and each their own - some folks it doesn't matter, pic or not and other folks it does. But when it comes to scammers, don't just rely on the no photo or yes photo, look for all the other signs that are there in that mail or profile... as that'll tell you a whole lot more than a pic.

I got one that opened an e-mail account just to send pics in it and gave me the password to log in and see them, for I wouldn't give him my e-mail address. It was a bit hard to tell him Thanks, but I'm not interested after seeing his pics, but had to do it grin
