give the other person there space ( i know it is hard but honestly if it was ment to be they will come back) Ocasionally send a love letter or a set of flowers just not to occasionally like a stalker and you should be okay, I know it hurts but try not to let it get to you.

Seriously though, find someone with the same desire for a level of closeness. Anyone needing less will it as being clingy.
Failing that find someone you feel you can trust with the space and distance they want.
