In light of the death of the whale trainer at Sea World, has your opinion of these types of types of entertainment facilities changed? How do you feel about these types of places as well as zoos and other places which feature wild animals as a means to attract people and their money?

I don't like them and never have been to any of these facilites including zoos - I see it as a form of animal cruelty for human profit.

Totally agree, the killer whale should be set free to swim the oceans, though obviously I feel sorry for the poor woman who died. Only marginal positive for zoos could be to try and rear endangered species back to survivable numbers perhaps

I feel very sorry for what happened to the whale trainer at Sea World. I'm sure she loved her work and had a lot of love and respect for all animals.
If zoos and other animal entertainment facilities kept only animals that couldn't or wouldn't be able to survive in nature and in the wild then I wouldn't mind them being kept and even trained to do tricks to help pay for their facilities. But to capture or breed animals to keep them locked up in cages just doesn't seem right.
Now to capture and breed animals that are close to extinction or in danger of extinction is a complete different story.
The ideal would be that the animals I mentioned be kept and bred on reservations where they’d have space to roam and where they could feel at home and enjoy as much freedom as possible.

Most definately agree with you. I do not like to see animals entrapped, they need their freedom. I cant stand any kind of cruelty to animals. Unfortunately, they do not have a choice like humans. Sad the woman died but people seem to forget these sea dwelling creatures are killers, just as with lions etc,and can turn on you at any given time.thumbs up

This particular whale has killed before. It should be released back into the ocean where it belongs.

they are trying to blame the trainer now saying she did not follow rules, maybe she or maybe she didn't, but with all the time she had she may have been lax but i don't think so, just a way out for them.

I agree with you with regards to breeding and the extinction of animals. There are parks in the UK, like Longleat, where the animals roam free and you drive through, a seal santuary in Cornwall (south west of England). And many many more places, where you can see all kinds of land and sealife in an environment that is not constrictive, sending the creature demented which is an awful thing to witness.

Not so keen on the animal tricks.

i personally don't like them becuz i agree its cruelity to animals they should be free in the wild, but i am gilty of going becuz i love to see the animals and i think the animals need people who care about them to go and show them love, but i sure do wish there was a law against keeping any animal in captivity like that.

Char, Nearly total agreement. We do, however have the Maine Game Farm. It's a place where the state takes in injured animals and rehabilitates them and returns them to the wild. Some are so badly injured that it is impossible. They are displayed pretty humanly. You can also feed the fish in the fish hatchery.grin before they are released for me to catch them ALL. They do charge a fee but I think it is different than sea world which I view the same as you.dunno
