Apparently the Canadian government is in the process of changing out currency over to "plastic money" as opposed to the paper/cotton bills that are in circulation. I read that is will be very mush like that in Australia. Also, it can be hard to "handle" as it is slippery and hard to count for those in banks and retail??? Could someone tell us here in Canada about this "plastic" fake feeling money? Curious as to what we will be dealing with in a year ...Thanks much!!! wine

I can barely remember paper money, we've had plastic for a while now. There is nothing difficult about it that I am aware of. banks have counting machines anyway, and when I was counting money in a casual job i had it was easy. The best thing about it is that it doesn't turn to mush in the washing machine like the old paper notes were wont to do.

Its not plastic literally. For those who pay no attention to these things. Will notice no difference unless they get a shiny new note. The covering gives the note more durability and a longer life. Also harder to rip.

Still blow away just the same and spend just the same.

Sorry for actually working with them on a daily basis though, I can give you no feedback.wave

The only problem i have found is when the notes get wet they can stick together so you will have to be careful when paying for something if the notes are wet. The fact that they don't disintegrate when accidently left in a pocket and washed is a bonus. I do wonder why we have two different $5 notes though, well three if you want to get technical.

wave

Always keep them in a purse or wallet. They have a way of sneaking out of pockets.

They can stick together when moist. I'm mindful of that when exchanging money with customers. . . . . especially on very humid days or if they've just come from the beach.

. . . . . . . . and the poker machines love em.frustrated

They scan well, but you would have to drill holes in your scanner to stop the clear bit from printing black...

MONEY
A legally or socially binding conceptual contract of entitlement to wealth, void of intrinsic value, payable for all debts and taxes, and regulated in supply.

A currency maintained by a state or other entity which can guarantee its value.

OTTAWA, Ontario – As announced in today's federal budget, in 2011 the Bank of Canada will begin to issue a new series of bank notes printed on a polymer material. The new notes will incorporate innovative security features to significantly increase their protection against counterfeiting.

The polymer material will last longer than the cotton paper currently in use, resulting in lower overall production costs and reduced environmental impact.

In the case of canadian money please note the following Application Procedure for reproducing:-
Requests to produce bank note images must be submitted in writing to the Bank and must include:

a brief statement of the purpose for copying a bank note image;
a sketch of the proposed bank note image;
a description of the proposed placement and distribution of the material featuring the bank note image; and
the date by which the Bank's approval is requested. [Note: The Bank will make every effort to meet reasonable deadlines.]

Dear Bank of Canada please produce bank notes with promise to pay clearly written on them, and insure the Bank clearly guarantees the notes face value redemption value.

days before a Group of 20 summit in
Toronto, could boost purchasing power and demand in the world's
third largest economy, encouraging investors globally to buy
risky assets.
