Dances With The wolves, meet's Pocahontas, that falls for Rambo, with a predictable final battle at "Little Big Horn". . . that save's the day in the end cheers cheers

I was just watching the movie . . . and I must say . . . it is a story, that was happening, when the states were f . . . ing over the Indians for the gold . . . the setting is fictional, but Indians, killing Buffalo's, black hills, driving the Indians from their land, AFTER, the state's signed a treaty with them, giving the the rights to the land, where later they found Gold . . . The same storyline is here . . . A Corporation ( states ) want that mineral or something, and they want the people living on THEIR OWN LAND, out, the nice way, or the HARD WAY . . . nothing new, nothing, exciting really, movie is really very predictable, my compliments to special effects, but if this is the future of the movies . . . not my taste, special effects yes, up to certain point . . . Nice family movie for the kids, a learning movie for them, as for me goes, one time watch only . . . I was actually being bored watching it . . . I'd give it 0/10, but the effects are nice, that's about it ( and the culture, I mean, it is obvious, they got the inspiration from native American Indians ) . . . .

Did anyone else seen the familiarities, to American Genocide over Indians, and to what is happening today in the world, again, cos of the states?
Cameron did send an interesting message, nicely wrapped up in to a children movie grin grin

Why do you care, you aren't even from America.

I see more parallel to what liberals suggest the U.S. is doing today in Iraq.

To a degree, I felt the same boredom with the plot as you did. It's predictable enough, that you kind of know what's going to happen. But let's give James Cameron some credit here. When you're making the most expensive movie of all time, you want some sort of guarentee it's not going to bomb at the box-office. And that's why he made it a fairly predictable action movie. But within that, there are enough brilliant innovations to make it worthwhile seeing. If not for the amazing computer animation alone. And by the way, I think it was an enormous risk to make a movie with such an obvious political/ecological message. The parallels with american history are so obvious, they are impossible to ignore. To send that message from within the military-industrial complex is, I think, quite courageous.

I wasn't analyzing, it is so obvious, that it hurts the eyes . . . I am not an American . . . and I know more about your own history, then you people do, and can draw parallels immediately . . . The message is clear . . . IF you know your history . . . as for entertainment, well, maybe that's what's wrong today . . . entertain people, make them stupid, so they don't see the world around them selves, and are blind to reality, besides, what is wrong, with being entertained, and seeing the deeper msg in the movies . . .

BoyracerBMW - - - Yeah I agree with you, it did take the courage, in now days - - - if you look back, people, artists, movie makers - - - tried to send their msg's, through their work, and the msg was clear, only to people who cared, or were smart enough to see it, to the rest of the world . . . well they were blind to it, as they are to all the other things . . . For bad things to happen, all it takes . . . is for good people, not doing anything about it . . .

I thought Avatar was good just a bit overrated. People kind of got sucked in by the 3D effects and the hype surrounding it. It wasn't quite as groundbreaking as I was led to believe. Now I saw it in 2D and I'm only commenting on the movie itself sans all the bells and whistles.

It was a great film! I downloaded it for free.

I think thier are political points in it like taking the land, and screwing the natives over etc. In the U.K they tried to ban it for being rascist!!!! When the military nut said to the blue convert ''how does it feel to betray your own race''

That caused a lot of stir...

Max54, it was directed by an Englishman. I think its nothing to do with American politics. If anything, what the British did when they colonized the world, in modern terms!

But, you are also a military nut :)

I saw the 2D version recently and lets face it we've seen versions of this type of scripting before. I think the movie does two things. Firstly its deliberately designed to blow you away visually. You don't invest that kind of money on a film, with that kind of animation so people can put up their feet and yawn.

Secondly, there were lots of subtle and not so subtle messages that were being sent. There are definite parallels in history that as a person living in this part of the world I can relate to. There are lots of movies whose purpose is simply to entertain and nothing more, I don't think this movie was done simply for entertainment purposes or simply to make a bag of money, I think the guy had a message/messages to send and you'd have to be real blind not to see what those are.
