Since I have been here so many times I have seen threads where people's names/email/address's/ mails are posted here and they are publically called Scammers.
To me nobody should be called this unless they have asked you for money either directly, or in a roundabout way gifts etc. Even then I don't feel its right to post it here, but to report it with the evidence you have.
So just interested, Whats your understanding of what a Scammer is?

i used to think anyone who wanted to chat outside of CS was a scammer...well, i still do... ...some may have a hard time logging in, to this site and that site, and another site...but then again, if it's that hard for them, i may not want to conversate with them in the first place....

Same as yours-material advantages as an ultimate goal. Emotional scam?! Get real people, it is called life. And as adults, we are to deal with it, not run to mummy and cry.

I'm pretty neutral on it as this is a public forum - but honestly I think people who expose scammers feel that thy're sparing or educating others esp. newbies who could be hurt by scammers.
But ur right technically it does violate forum rules, but does it violate the "intent"
is that forum rule more to do with a scorned lover, for example, airing laundry & revealiing private info on another w/out permission - in an inapropriate manner? Do we really care what happens to scammers? Or is the intent of that rule to protect legitimate members from having their private lives revealed on here?

I would imagine the rule is not there for what you suggest.
I would think that the rule is there to stop people defaming someone and spreading malicous lies about them. I have seen so many people start threads 'exposing' someone, and I think most of the time its with the right intentions. However there are times when what they write is completely false. Its also easy to blame others when sometimes they should take some of the responsibility themselves.

No one can really be called a scammer in my book unless you have personally handed over anything of material value. Then you have been scammed. And no I do not agree with giving out personal information as you have stated above.
Scammer by definition is someone who swindles you by deception or fraud.
There is a Scam Warning highlighted in red explaining exactly what a scammer is.
To me a scammer is someone who asks for money gifts etc.
I don't feel it's right to expose anyone who'e suspected of being a scammer.I think the ones who think they are should report those kinds of people not expose them in the forums.
I remember not too long ago when, I believe, it was a woman that come on here smearing a man's name. As we all found out later, there is always two sides to the story. Her accusations were unfounded and she was just mad at the guy and taking it out on him in the forum.
Now, imagine if that happened to you. I think that I can safely say that nobody would appreciate their name being smeared in the forums, legit or not.
The mods have a procedure for dealing with scammers. The procedure should be followed. It's there for a reason.
