I used to belong to a Boxer-Rescue website, and although most of the threads related to boxer dogs, I started a "Wildlife" thread, and it was really successful. People would send in their photographs of wildlife to either identify or to tell a wee story about, and I used to post short articles about birds, animals, plants etc. All very lighthearted and nothing too heavy.
If it was to work on here, I guess it would have to be on the UK forums and under the "Picture Threads" so we could post photographs (something which I haven't done on here yet )
I didn't want to put this question in the poll section, because I know a lot of people that are bored with the polls and wouldn't bother to look at them.
So... I would just like to know if anyone on here would be interested in this, and would be willing to add their own stories, articles and photographs.

Count me out of this one.
I live in a concrete jungle and the nearest thing I see to wildlife is a flock of pigeons or next doors dog
I did see a real life cow in the flesh about 11 years ago at Alton Towers but don't think I kept the photo.
Crystal29: Well Juneau...Ive a wee cat called Bree....I like hedgehogs and I love dolphins....does that count?
Well, it's start!
Having been on this site since September last year, I have a feeling that this idea will go down like a lead balloon....but you never know unless you ask! I really enjoyed my wee thread on the boxer rescue site. It was lovely to see people getting really interested, even though perhaps they don't normally have an interest in wildlife. It did take a lot of time/energy on my part to keep it going though, so that is something I would need to consider.
Thanks for all your comments folks. I am only thinking about it at this stage as, like I said, when I did it on the boxer forum, it did take a lot of time to put an articles together. I am not one to just cut and paste tons of stuff from internet sites...that would be too boring & long-winded, and you can go to wildlife sites and read that for yourselves. This would perhaps be something along the lines of me posting one of my photos of a Great Spotted Woodpecker on the bird table, then telling you a bit about them....or may be those inquisitive blackbirds!!
Several of the folks on my other forum used to post their photographs of the wildlife that came into their garden or maybe something interesting they had seen on holiday or a certain flower that they couldn't recognise etc. Several of us even ended up taking part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. I love to inspire people to take an interest in wildlife/natural history...especially if it's things that they can see in their garden, in their local wood or even out on their local football pitch! Wildlife is everywhere, whether you live in the countryside or in the middle of the city. There will always be something to see!

Juneau: That sounds wonderful. That's the kind of thing I am talking about. Just encouraging people to appreciate the wildlife right in their own gardens. Despite not having a doggie just now, there doesn't seem to be much wildlife in my garden this year. I am convinced that a lot of birds died in the extreme winter temperatures we had this year. There is a real difference in the numbers coming into the garden. Haven't seen the woodpecker or the red squirrel either!
Thank you J ..... we just get the grey squirrels in this area ---- they tend to dig little holes in my lawns - trying to remember where they've buries their acorns, nuts etc

I think your idea of a wildlife thread is excellent and I would be very interested. I haven't taken too many wildlife photos myself though, but did manage to get quite close to a mountain hare last year for a shot of the critter in it's finest snowy livery.
It might be a good incentive to get folk outdoors and taking some wildlife photos, which must be very satisfying. Likewise I'd love to hear stories about what animals you have seen and unusual behaviour observed - e.g. seeing a stoat fighting with two magpies in our garden at work - a fascinatingly even contest!
saw my first red squirrel of the year driving along loch tay last weekend 1st of the year so i know that one has survived the winter normally see quite a lot late august

Hope a few more of us can support Juneau on this.
Many regards,

a stoat fighting with two magpies huh? Wow! That would have been interesting! Magpies and stoats both definitely have "attitude", that's for sure!
Kind of feel we have started a wildlife forum already, with all your comments!
If I do start a proper Wildlife forum on the picture thread section, is it something like "Photobucket" that I would need to use? I would appreciate any advice on this, as a Wildlife forum without photos/pictures and Juneau's cartoons, just wouldn't be the same!
leisure07: well i did go back the next day just to make sure never joined in though bit chilly round the bits
Did you have your big lens at the ready for the natural wildlife??
Actually my parents had a friend who ran a pub in the biggest naturist resort in Europe which is based in France, and while they had a great time, they did see some sights!!
