Quite simply, it is being attracted to them, a combination of both their character and physical appearance smitten The good thing about sites like this is that you can learn about a person's character and take things at a pace you are both comfy with, though I agree with others that it is important that you meet in person in the first month or two as it is only in person that you will know if it is the real deal.. wine

I agree. What attracts here is a combination of both personality and physical appearance, same in real life I suppose, but here at least you can get to know someone a little better from the forums etc before actually committing to a date. The problem with online dating though is that profile pics are not always as they seem, and people are not always honest in their profiles, so however well you may think you know somebody it isn´t always the case.

I would still rather meet people in the real world, at least I know I´m attracted physically from the word go, and I have that body language which is so important.

I'd go out with practically anyone for just a drink or a walk or a packet of chips because you never know who's going to be interesting or funny... and even if he's not Mr Right, he could turn out to be a good mate.

Second date is far more tricky.

Well EM, however much you say you like women to make the first move, in reality it doesn´t often happen, even in our enlightened age of today.

Men still have to make the first move for most women in my opinion.

So very true Jan, which is probably why I am very selective on an International dating site..... no point asking or pursueing if there is no actual reality of meeting.

The "real world" is the one that works best

I agree, but you seem to be popular with the ladies, why hasn´t anything worked out for you? Distance? That seems to be the reason for most.

Selectivity works best in real life too don´t you think?

If he is in an appropriate age and we can keep conversation as dialogue, not as two monologues, then it’s reason enough for me for a date in the real life.

I think distance is probably the biggest issue here, especially on an International site.

You can spend hours chatting here, having fun on the forums and getting to know someone, using Skype or other such services, but it's not until you get to meet do you really know whether the chemistry is there......

If money were no object, I would probably spend the rest of my life jetting around the world to meet many of the wonderfull ladies on this site, just to share a coffee and maybe some quality time seeing the sites of their country, but if the chemistry is lacking then for both of us it's a dissappointment.

It is far easier to be at a function, museum, enjoying the arts or something similar..... see someone you like, talk to them and know within minutes whether you have a connection and take it further.

The internet connects people but it doesn't make a chemical connection !

I agree, so for some, even being on an International site really should not be an option.

If you have young children and you meet someone who also has children and you both get on well, the problem arises, sooner or later that one of you needs to make the decision to relocate.

Not a problem if your potential partner is close to hand or a couple of hours flight away from your own children, but if she/he is on the other side of the world, what is the reality of even pursueing such a relationship. ?

Love does find a way.... the love for ones children is strongest and will find it's way no matter what !

Yep it's a brilliant start. Now if only someone would ask me and then not cancel!!

Other than being asked....if someone makes me laugh over emails or messges I'd be inclined to say yes as that is one thing that captures my attention. If the chat is boring to start with I'd say no... probably very closed of me but I really do like someone who can make me laugh laugh
