Hmmm...looking around i see a lot of families where the children were raised to be upstanding productive members of society...but have chosen a different road. Drugs, TV, friends all play a part in this. You can take 2 children of the same family and each one be totally opposite to their surroundings. Good parenting does play a part...but the end results is what the child decides to do with it.

as a parent who has been there and done that..you are spot on...
when children have more rights than the parents it can make the parents role very difficult...

I just wish they would listen. It would make their life and ours so much easier. Not like we've already "been there and done that" type of thing. Or seen someone else who has. We know the end results. But guess they have to live and learn on their own and make their own mistakes to figure it out.

Granted there are some that have been helped by these rights BUT these "rights" have done more harm than good. It brought about the end of family as we knew it and paved the way for the disrespect and the uncaring attitudes that we are faced with today.
DjWabbet: Or are they a product of thier environment? What do you think?
Speaking from my own experience, two what I would call normal down to earth but number three by a different mum, I would say that being a child and growing up is difficult as being young you tend to take on board many things and let them influence you in your own thinking, often when in the real world later on and out of the teens realisation will set in and you will see the world and your parents in a different light.
I suspect DJW you ask the question as a guide as to what may be in your life. If that is the case just let time take over as nothing heals better than time.
How many of us have had our children say later in life "you were right Dad or Mum"? Many and it proves the point. However, not to put too much of a damper on it, there are always the exceptions. Not much we can do about that.
