I didn't expect it to be this bad :O, I flicked on the TV, and saw burning police cars, masked folk doing a lot of damage to random things.

People screaming police brutality and SWAT teams everywhere.

Wow, really. :O

What's this all over? Any particular reason, or is it just Toronto?laugh

Last night when I got back to Edmonton, two entire neighbourhoods were cordoned off by the police, and a crime scene investigation truck was at one spot. Edmonton, what a "fun" place to live. laugh

Makes you wonder if it is worth the money spent to host the G8/G20 Summits. A reported 1 billion dollars spent already. France is promising a lower cost when they host next year.

As far as the protesters go...No one seems to know what it was all about. Perhaps a varied, motley group that just happened to be in the same place at the same time.

I can't believe this is happening.
I used to work right at the spot where it started ( Young and Adelaide).

5 police cars burnt so far and they found 1 guy with body armour, pick axe and nail gun and another with a crossbow.
Jeeeeez, it is like when the police went on strike way back in the 80's. This if freaking crazy!!!moping thumbs down

Most of the protesters were peaceful..it only takes a couple of idiots to start this kind of trouble and there are some who do so on purpose..The masked ones dress all in black and from what I have heard / read they go to all kinds of political events and cause problems like this...Not very Canadain is it?

"this bad"??????????? In the past convocations of this G8/G whatever cabal people were throwing Molotov cocktails at the police; dragging police into the crowds and beating them; some stabbed and torn to shreds. These are not games for kids any longer. Count yourselves lucky the protesters aren't yet playing for keeps as their European and Asian counterparts are more than willing to risk all against what has become not only a symbol but are there in person as the common enemy of the common people. The young so called 'anarchists' haven't yet matured to the reality of the mass forms of violence initiated by these governments that make up the current G20. When they do, it may be too late for all of us and for our planet. You haven't seen anything yet...laugh

Surely it can't be as bad as after a Montreal Canadian game ... or St. Jean Baptist day ...

TORONTO - The streets of Toronto were quiet Sunday morning - a day after a violent rampage left a trail of burned police cruisers, broken glass and property damage.

But violence broke out again by the late morning. At least 70 people were arrested at the University of Toronto - most of them from Quebec.

This is copied and pasted from news articles about the riots in TO.

It kind of caught me by surprise to see there was the people from "Quebec" put in the news articles. I was just making fun that usually the worst were when sports events or during St. Jean Baptiste day.

It's sad to see the way things are going. (on both sides of the issues)

Sorry kind of screwed up what I was trying to say.

I do feel that some of that is from mob mentality... just takes a few to get things going and then it domino's out of control.

Why don't they take the $1 billion and buy an island somewhere that has built-in security barrier (water) and have the summit there every year? The U.N. could provide the much smaller security force including airspace coverage and we wouldn't have to put cities under siege for these types of meetings any longer.

Skype it... saves on travel fares, polution from same, security, handshakes that mean nothing and there would be no geographical area for protesters to congregate.

I was appalled and shocked to see that kind of behavior in Canada. Families, victims, people come from other countries to escape exactly that, and to have it so close to home was scarey to see. We've come too far to resort to violence. Words are stronger than any physical action.
I am just relieved that the authorities are pursuing these individuals.
There should be counseling for the youth in the Toronto area, it was traumatizing just watching. The youth have to know it's not acceptable, not tolerated, and, it's not a solution.
