Without real action from Congress we are in danger of recent fossil fuels tragedies repeating. Congress must act to make sure that doesn't happen, PLEASE!
- Enact an immediate ban on all new drilling and phase-out all remaining drilling;
- Remove liability limits for energy-related activities in accordance with the principal that the polluter must pay;
- Improve regulation and oversight of energy-related activities to ensure maximum protection of the public health and the environment;
- End all subsidies for fossil fuels and invest in clean renewable energy, efficiency technology, and infrastructure-sustainable-energy-retrofitting development.
The US must stop using dangerous energy sources like fossil fuels and replace them with clean renewable energy and efficiency technology. With a wake up call like the disaster in the Gulf, WE THE PEOPLE are demanding that Congress must finally act to secure the future of our country.

Hola Amante de los árboles! Let us keep doing the civil protest in every ones' place until something is done to make the responibles to pay for that tragedy (eventhough we know they will never pay enough). We mortals could help by using the minimum amount of fossil energy and change to solar powered devices in the places that can be done. In my place we get lots of sunshine and we are using the solar-vacuum-tubes system to heat water for domestic use and there are many ways to use alternative energies, the technology is already available.

Conrad73: No more Petro-Chemicals! No more Plastics! Build Computers and Other Things out of Wood instead! Stop Airtravel etcetera,etcetera!That Will Be The Day,as John Wayne so aptly said!
Its not about stopping doing stuff, its about changing our ways living smarter so we can live in harmony with our surroundings and as a result be happier and healthier. Maybe less money could be spent on wars to help fund science that can bring about these changes.

BRAVO! I was happy to hear that Greenpeace has now 'official status at the G20 conference as 'Observers' and will present their concerns to this cabal of politicians and industrial heads so usually hostile to the peoples of the world...a foot in the door is better than being locked out...

Why don't we put 10,000 people out of work permanently. And make them part of the members of the entitlement society. Reduce the SE economy by billions in lost future contract that would go the 34 safe rigs and thier support program, that the Federal Gov't found had little or no safety violations.
While we are at it.....why don't get ready to sing very big checks to Saudi Arabia and other middle easier countries. Because until you got a big over sized green car that can carry 6 in ease, you will need crude and oil in the US of A.
Besides if we go totally green, Greenpeace would not have bunker fuel to play mariner bumoer tag with Japaanese whaling vessels.

TheresMyFriend: This brings a question to my mind:
"If we continue to remove the fuel/oil from beneath the ground, then would that not create a vacuum of sorts?
I mean if we take out, and if nothing is left in the well..wouldn't the place of extraction stand a chance of caving in or collapsing?
Then if all the drilling and pumping of the contents, eventually causes an unbalance of the earth (don't panic,just wondering here), then what?
Will earth be thrown out of sync with it's orbit (possibly making it wobble to who knows where)?"
"Would we not look like a "drunk planet", trying to find our way home?"
Just wondering!
I think if we get thrown out of orbit,we want be here long enough to worry about it!If the stop drilling for oil,fuel will be so high no one can afford it...we need to find another way to run things,but the people who are making all the money off of fuel will not go down easily!

This is true, your right.
Maybe it's a good time to seriously start thinking more along the lines of alternative energy, i.e. solar energy.
We can put a man on the moon, and other places...why not another energy source?

There is plenty of Research going on! But there is only so much Space for Windpower (intermittent) Growing Fuel has the same Problem,Arable Land! Solar,same problem,requires vast Areas. Some say,that the Middle East would be ideal to generate all that Solar Power,then convert it into Hydrogen! Nothing wrong with Hydrogen,except it would still make the world dependent on the same Source a great percentage of our Energy is coming from these days,which still wouldn't solve the problem.(Outflow of immense Capital)
