DodgeBabe: "Recent surveys by Gallup found roughly 700 million adults would like to migrate to another country permanently if they had the chance. The United States is the top desired destination country. Nearly one-quarter (24%) of these respondents, which translates to more than 165 million adults worldwide, name the United States as their desired future residence. With an additional estimated 45 million saying they would like to move to Canada, Northern America is one of the two most desired regions."

The above courtesy of Wikipedia...

We respect each other, dont we? We respect each other's countries, dont we?

Why then, is it that the USA is singled out constantly on CS as a target of country-bashing? It seems strange to me, when it is listed as being the most desired country to immigrate to, according to this source - which is obviously considered a reliable one as it is used so much in CS posts!

I find it outrageous that Americans are expected to sit back, and be insulted and maligned on a daily basis by others. It is not even a question of which country it is - that shouldnt matter...it is the fact that others seem to think it acceptable to bash another's country. Its not. Its hurtful, insulting and rude.

Irrespective of what you think about a country's political stance and policies, as we mostly know - this does not generally represent the opinion of Joe Bloggs on the street. Therefore, it is unfair to insult and malign a country's citizens, do you not think?

I believe respect should always be shown for other countries. CERTAINLY, the normal citizens of that country who simply want to live their lives and respect, and be respected.

This applies, in my opinion to all our countries, not just the USA, by the way.

Respect for each other's lands and cultures should be a given. Nothing more, nothing less.
who bashed your homeland lady?that is a shame.bless you and your motherlandteddybear

Iuchi_Zien: Define 'America bashing'?
Is attacking the shameful behaviour in Guantanamo bay America bashing? Is attacking the hypocrisy of the US lecturing others on human rights whilst trying to defend its right to torture detainees (occasionally kidnapped, illegally, from supposed allies) America bashing?
If it is than I am an America basher. I don't hold the US people personally responsible, but I do hold them collectively responsible for the actions of the government elected by the majority of them. You talk about the number of people who want to come to the US if you lived on $5 a month in a slum and were watching US TV series where everybody owns a fifteen bedroom mansion and a BMW/Mercedes don't you think you would jump at the chance?

By the way well said Mindfful! And that applies not just to the US but to everybody who belongs to a country with a democratic government.
Wonder if the POWs of any Country in WWI and WWII had Due Process!

Yes, most benefited from due process they were defined as Prisoners of War and treat according to the rules defined for 'Prisoners of War', with the exception of Japan, Russia and (in some cases) Germany. Very few countries during WWI or WWII treated captured prisoners as 'non-people'
This would of course require the US to actually follow the rules of international law and define the detainees of Guantanamo as POW's or Civilians which they haven't, because then they would have rights. So the US avoids defining them as anything (that would be recognised by international law) so they can continue to hold them WITHOUT due process and torture as they deem fit. If the US wants to hold them as 'Enemy combatants' get the law changed. Otherwise you are no better than the WWII Japanese, or WWII Russian or WWII German.

Iuchi_Zien: Respectfully no! I suggest you read YOUR OWN original post a little more carefully.
If you don't like the answer don't ask the question. You wanted to know and I gave you an answer. You voted in the election of the leaders and government and you are responsible for the actions of your government. I suggest you start to take some responsibility for those actions and that includes accepting criticism of your governments actions or is the US government not part of the US? As an example is it OK to respect Apartheid South Africa (when it existed) without holding the people who elected that evil form of government responsible? You opened this particular can of worms and once opened you have to accept what comes out. If you don't like that then tough!!

1. I am not an American. Therefore, I have the unique perspective of having been born, brought up and schooled in other countries, prior to immigrating to the US, but being able to soak in the culture here and observe fairly impartially. I suggest you know your thread combatant before you cast aspurtions.

2. The question was asked as regards the amount of members here who post negatively toward the US, which suprised me given the fact that it rates as No 1 on the Desired Countries to Immigrate To. Thats a complete contradiction, and it has not really been answered in this thread to date.

3. The OP included the sentiment that the thread was geared toward the everyday American, not the policy makers. As I have used time and time again as an example, Britain has behaved very badly in the past; their entire count of citizens are not judged and sentenced the way US citizens are.

4. I have no INTENTION of discussing Apartheid with you. That is for a completely different thread, and section even.

5. I opened no "Can of Worms", Sir. I made it quite clear what I was looking for from my OP, and in no way did it include American Policy Spouting.

If you cannot be polite, and answer the OP as it is ASKED, then I suggest YOU should not even make an attempt to.

thumbs up wine

The second somebody says...'I know how you ARE..you're an AMERICAN.'

...That person seizes to see the person, and sees only the label.

That applies to pretty much all countries...I would think.

And if you've had one bad experience with an American, and you carry that one bad experience into your present relationships....IT REALLY IS TOO bad, because you're missing out on MAYBE meeting some really good people.

I'm using AMERICAN,BUT it applies to all nationalities.

Let us all not forget that over the last few years, more than a few hundred thousand pages have had to be deleted from Wikipedia due to bogus and totally false information put into it by fictitious contributors using the names of respected scholars and many other prominent people from a multitude of disciplines in regards to history, religion, medical and scientific topics.
Personally, I never use it has it simply cannot be a totally reliable source. The deletions are constantly going on. It is much easier to log into the Universities of Oxford Cambridge or any of the learned centres all over Europe and even the data banks of American universities or even the 'grand-daddy' of all reliable, irrefutable source of specific and general knowledge on The Encyclopedia Britannica.....why bother with amateurs; go to the real professionals...
Have ...has anyone actually double checked this poll with the Gallup people for the entire context of this poll ???

doh If you really wish to spend the time double checking this link, then feel free!

Its not a consipiracy, you know! Im not trying to dupe anyone!laugh

The fact that a excerpt from Wikipedia was used to start the OP is hardly the most important aspect of the OP, I would say.
