I always think outside the box and believe that what two mutually consenting adults decide is good for them, is good enough and they should never do (or fail to do) anything just because the rest of society imposes it (or doesn't agree with it). Only in this way can we really call ourselves "Free".

The average person does not see things this way. (I don't mean to generalize). They have been conditioned to follow social tradition, and those of them wishing to be free of it choose instead to exercise their freedom deceitfully rather than standing up for what they believe and publicly declaring it.

Honesty should always start with oneself. If you cannot admit to yourself who you are and what you believe, then I hardly think you are in a position to admit it to others, so you live a life of deceit and deny yourself the freedom to choose for yourself, and in doing so also deny others the right of respect.

That is absolutely the point here. Sadly, so may people preach it, yet hardly practice it.

What we do effect other's for example our parents and children and to a lesser extent extended family and friends are judged by our behaviour-therefore this must be taken into consideration.

That is sooooo true, consideration must be taken especially with regards to our kids. I wouldn't do anything that I do not preach to my kids.

And behind it is religion (the main reason why people don't-can't think ooutside the box). And the constraints it puts on people..

I agree that we must take this into consideration but let's look at why. It is because of another disrespectful act on the part of many people. Judging others by the actions of those associated with them. At the best of times, people should not be judged publicly by others but rather only for their own purposes to decide whether or not to associate with them.

I judge people on their own merit and not on the merit of their other family members. Furthermore, when I judge, I only do it to determine how much I can trust or rely on that particular person and not for any other reason.

I know this sounds too idealistic but if we don't shoot for the stars, we will almost certainly never reach the moon. :)

Yes Phoenix. I agree with you 100% on this one. Imposition of religious beliefs by some people on others is a big problem. Sometimes they forget that these are just beliefs and everyone is entitled to design their own belief system as they see fit without fear of reprisal. In Malta it seems to be an even bigger problem than most other EU states. However obviously nowhere as big a problem as in a theocracy; such as Iran, UAE, etc.

Probably to do with people being ignorant of other peoples cultures and beliefs...ANd on the otherside if someone 'imports' and alien belief-culture to another part of this big bad world, they have to respect the locals beliefs..
