l havent been myself though the country's like next door, but i have friends who have. Expect great hotels and splendid white beaches, food will be mediterranean arabic generally spicy, service fine, and good value for money. However don't expect much beyond the hotels and a visit to the street market can be an experience - expect to be hassled. I believe the currency is tunisian dinar but you should be fine with euro or dollar.

I have been to Malta, which I think was only 2 hours flying time from Zurich? .... and I`ve been told Tunisia is also only about 2 hours flying...... straight over your island.....

The only thing putting me off at the moment, about Tunisia is the fact that I have to apply for a Visa, and I am SO lazy about things like that!

What is Malta like about September?` I was there in Febraury and it was sort-of mild warm.... a bit of cold wind.

Has the cost of living gone up much in Malta since about 2 years ago?
It was VERY cheap when I was there!

In september its still nice and warm and less tourists around than august, however the weather will start to change and expect the occasional thundery rainstorm which can be pretty bad (esp. towards end month). So that depends on whether you're looking for sun 'n sea. Costs have gone up slightly in last 2 years but not by much.

I`m looking for the closest warmest place to lie on a beach.

I missed out on the local places due to not having a passport - but I got it now, a bit late in the season, and looking for the next best places to go lie in the sun ....

Thanks again Zeus, for your reply.

i'm not sure i'd recommend malta as a warm place to laze around on the beach for a week ... our beaches are small, overcrowded, not too clean, and you'll be risking it with the weather.
You should try cyprus as they have miles and miles of wonderful beaches and more stable weather in september.

The Adriatic coastline. Not so populated with gorgeous beaches. I will be going there on my pending trip over.

Stay away from The Italian Riviera, though you will be fine. There is a town there, where the mayor has officials scouring the beaches with a tape measure, and if a woman's hips are too big, they get turfed off! Jeezrolling on the floor laughing

Enjoy your week when the time comes.wine

Hey taff, yep we did have some bad ones indeed!!

You're right of course re less crowding in september but still if you have been to any beaches in cyprus (like agia napa, larnaka, limassol, protaras, or paphos) or the beaches of any of the greek islands, you'll have to admit that our beaches leave much to be desired.

If you'd like to feel like being 70 years behind time, then go to Tunisia.... decent hotels sure...But don't expect much else...then again, it's cheap and you get what you pay for. Try the Bahamas or closer the Canaries..
