I recently had the good fortune to be in Milan when the two top teams from the city played each other .. tickets for such a match are like the proverbial gold dust ..

Luckily I got a ticket through some friends of mine but when I entered the ground I realised I wasn't going to get the best view of the match .. I was right at the back of the stand .. the players would be like ants running around and the ball would have been almost impossible to see .. I was a little disappointed as I had been looking forward to seeing a milan derby since .. well, since being a young boy ... the milan derby is that important in the world of football ..

the milan ground was packed with each and every seat taken .. there were as many people again outside who couldn't get into the ground as they hadn't had my luck in getting a ticket .. however, as I looked around, I noticed one empty seat in the centre of the milan stand .. the view from that seat was much better than from mine .. I couldn't believe it .. I was perplexed, not knowing if I should stay where I was and all but miss the action or move to that empty seat with a better view

eventually, as the seat was still empty after kick off, I picked up courage and decided to make my way down to that empty seat .. however before sitting down I asked if it was really as free as it seemed

the man in the next seat told me that he and his wife always went to every milan match and that that seat was his wife's ... adding that sadly his poor wife was now deceased .. I felt a little embarrassed but he said I shouldn't be and that I was welcome to take the vacant place at his side

however, remembering the importance of this match to everybody in milan .. not to mention to many more still outside milan .. I asked the man if he couldnt maybe have brought a close friend or family member to fill the empty place .. he told me that he would have normally but today they were all busy ..

all busy? .. on a milan derby match day? .. I asked him what they were all doing he told me ..

'they are at my wife's funeral' .. rolling on the floor laughing

Me as a keen AC Milan Supporter I travel every year for this 2 games. I've been doing this now for the last 15 years and was there also when the 2teams met in the CL. I'm part of the Curva Sud, so you can imagine how important for us this game is.

I do the same thing for Roma matches, and go to watch a couple of games each season. Never seen a Roma-Milan live yet, have you? conversing

I usually go to watch a Champions' League and a league match, I guess you do the same thing? applause

Yes did twice. Once the coppa italia final, just 3 days after the CL Final in Manchester back in 2003, and once at the Olimpico, where we lost 1-0 (mancini). I have a very nice photo of that game, which the Curva Sud Milano sent me, with a flare being thrown on us, and just me on my own near the carabinieri with the my own Stendardo open. devil

I've never seen Roma play away from the Olimpico live. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd want to, Italian stadiums aren't that safe for the away fans, hehe.

Would like to watch a game at San Siro as a neutral though :)

Tell me Wulfen, even if my self being an Ultra like to travel for the difficult away games. If you have the opportunity the Milan Derby is a must. Travelled also to watch Milan in Bergamo, Verona (against Hellas) and in Genoa (against Genoa) and Turin (against Juve). Together with the other team of Milano, this 4 teams are considored the arch rivals of Milan, so you can imagine the atmosphere. devil
