Does TRUE altruism exists?

I mean altruism as doing good to someone without ANY ( even psychic ) reward.

I cannot answer your question, as I know not many altruists... But I have done many a good thing without thinking twice about it nor expecting anything in return. Does that qualify?

No, not self sacrifice necessarily but perhaps putting yourself in danger or at risk.

e.g. running out into traffic to save a child.

A mother enjoys being a mother.

A hero has self-satisfaction that they've done the right thing and not suffered the guilt of not having acted.

Perhaps the question should be, does it matter whether true altruism exists?

guilty conscience ( I hope I used the right term) could be connected to what I said about our need to feel good
