I have been thinking of late about the unsung heroes in our midst and how we tend so easily to forget them in comparison to the celebrity's who we raised up on pedestals and worship in life and in death. A classic example is Tiger Woods who is getting an airing on the Forums, also the Pop stars, dead and alive. What greatness have they achieved except to earn millions playing a sport they enjoy, or entertaining us.
Much as I enjoy a good voice or a great athlete ,do we not pay them too much attention ,and forget the unsung heroes that are going about their lives risking life and limb,on the battlefields, firefighters, etc.
A classic example is one Captain Ed Woods of the U.S. Army who in the Vietnamese war rescued 29 men at great risk to himself and suffered injuries also.It took 36 years before he was recognised as a "hero" waiting until 2001 before getting a medal.
They walk amongst us now these "unsung heroes".Let's lift them up where they belong.Name someone you think has earned the right to be called a hero and celebrate their achievement.
My heroes....firemen, firewomen, paramedics, police...our "boy and girls" overseas...these are the people who put themselves on the front lines of every day war. Brave and bravo.

strict: truthfull.. you know, media is making money by those celebs, and heros would not!! and now a days most of us are more affected by those rubbish media..
That was the reasons for this thread.Too many zeros not enough heroes!
My father was a fireman all his life and saved the lives of many. When I was a child, a man came up to my father in the street and while crying, he thanked my father for saving his daughter's life. To me, he's a hero. Celebrities provide role models and gossip fodder for the vacuous.

taff1: Correct, I totally agree. They make a huge difference to us all, and we're blessed to have them!!
I just get a tad angry when Footballers are put on pedestals for scoring the winning goal,or Golfers for the Green Jacket etc. etc. They get paid disgustingly high salaries for this service to sport, unlike the average Serviceman who risks his life for us daily and gets very little recognition.

Unsung heros,,, how about those who choose to work in a field that has few rewards but the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference in someones life, like people who work in nursing homes, people who work with disabled kids, people who visit the blood bank on a regular basis, people who voluntear in youth programs or food banks or shoup kitchens. these people dedicate there lives to helping others and seldome get any reward or recignition for there efforts.

these people Im talking about are not heros once or twice, or just when the oppurtunity arises, they are heros every day, day after day for a life time.

That's what I'm on about, the background people that need to be brought forward and recognised for the work they do.
