Strangely enough I was, I don't know, something about it made me identify with the victims.

My deepest sympathy to all the victims of September 11. That awful day in 1973 when the CIA helped to overthrow the democratically elected leader of Chile and install the evil fascist parasite Pinochet.sad flower

He was ten times the democrat that America's poodle Pinochet was. I don't recall Allende filling any football stadia with corpses.

Okay one single one off incident where a few thousand died is tragic, but nothing compared to inflicting fascism on a whole nation for an entire generation. I wonder how many people know the significance of this date for the people of Chile?

You can get smarmy all you want, but surely you have to admit that the installation of a fascist murderer in a democratic country is a significant historical event.

The September 11th that you refer to was a personal tragedy for those involved but was a one off event. This isn't me being anti-American, just offering some bloody perspective.

Just because you may have been brainwashed into believing that the US and their allies are the only countries where the people's suffering counts, doesn't mean the rest of us have.

At Logan Airport, the McCourts waited on standby. Ruth Clifford McCourt, a 44-year-old businesswoman who left her native County Cork as a teenager, was taking four-year-old Juliana on a vacation to Los Angeles. Mother and daughter found seats aboard United Airlines Flight 175.

Shortly after takeoff, of course, Flight 175 was yanked from its flight path by hijackers. As Ruth McCourt's plane hurtled towards Lower Manhattan, it's likely she never knew that her own brother, Ronnie, was attending a business meeting in the very same skyscraper where she and her daughter would meet their fiery end. ??

Ronnie Clifford would escape the Trade Center without serious injury, only to learn later that one of the two planes that brought the Towers down contained his sister Ruth and niece Juliana. ??sad flower sad flower

Godsgift: I find the topic a bit devisive. I have sympathy with the families and friends of the people who died that day but I have absolute contempt for the US and UK administrations who used these deaths as a justification for war and the slaughter of still more innocents.

thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

I lived in NY at the time as its my home town and it didn't really affect me - sympathy for the families yes - but not for the rest of the nonsense that happened - there was no justification for the war as you said total and utter over reaction and the ruination of a country. In the time after the 'attack' I had two Muslim friends who were beaten up viciously in the street simply for their appearance - despite them both being born, bred and raised in the USA - that was the most disgusting part of it in my opinion

Ps - JMO but its these threads that ruin this site and this is my one and only comment on it as I've spoken my mind. As another poster said it was only a matter of time before this issue was brought up and the muslim bashing with it aswell.

One short comment on all of this, and I think 9/11 brought it to the fore:
"American Foreign policy has a lot to answer for"
