I just heard about this on the way home this evening so i only heard a small bit of the interview but he didnt seem to be 100%on top of his game from the bit i heard. But the media seem to be making a big thing of it at the moment.

I listened to it on You Tube and had someone not mentioned it, I wouldn't have given the interview a second thought. The content was interesting though...seems the latest €32 billion for Anglo Irish is a minimum amount!dunno

I heard some of the interview this morning and I thought he sounded hung over. Later on I heard he was in the bar till 3 am, so even if he wasn't drunk I would question the wisdom of his decision to stay up till that hour if he had an major interview in the morning

Mind you he never really answered any of the questions satifation, as always, so no real change there then. laugh

There is no other option but to have a hard budget. People are in dreamland if they think otherwise.

As for the interview, I'd say he was tired due to being up late at the Fianna Fail get together. Plus the sound quality of the phone he was on seems a bit dodgy. His PR people should never have let him on after being up so late.

Godsgift: This is nothing to do with him appearing drunk. It's to do with certain FF ministers and backbenchers wanting him out. And they will keep the pressure up till he's gone. The interview was given the morning after RTE showed a program about the banking crash in which Brian and Bertie took no responsibility whaysoever for driving the ecconomy on to the rocks.

I think people don't understand how deep a mess we are in ecconomically and we are getting worse.

Out of every €5 we have in our posession, €2 is borrowed by the state....40%. So that's 40% of everything we own or partly own is owned by foreign banks and we are paying huge rates of interest. Iceland, Greece, the UK and Spain are recovering. We are still getting worse and are in severe danger of the IMF coming in.

The backbenchers want anyone gone who had anything to do with this mess. That's why this daft story is being kept alive.

The Sunday papers will make or break Cowen now but as I keep saying, I think we've passed the tipping point. This will open the door to a Federal Europe. They will never allow another McCreevie, Cowen or Ahern to de-stabalise the Euro again.

You may be right.....for me it wasnt the hoarse throat....it was the complete lack of ideas in a ten minute interview coming from a conference intended to boost their resolve and produce new thinking!

Persoanlly I think they should all go, coming from a private industy background i.e whereby my achievements, success are measured if I didn't deliver on company expecations I would not be employed - simple to me I assume this applys to there performance should that not be selected however using a botched radio show to do keep the so called presure on hmmm it still seems like bickering to me! I do not have the skill set or knowledge to make this judgement on performance or there performance resulting in todays situation however there so called collagues do so why not go about in a professional manner i.e based on performance related concerns hand him his walking papers.....

I'd agree. Ideally we need a general election and a government of national unity. We need strong legislation that puts us ALL in the same boat financially including the senior civil servants who have managed to weedle their way out of the pay cuts acting in total self interest.

You say you are not qualified but I don't think you have to be Bill Cullen or Alan Sugar to know that if a company is having to borrow 40% of it's intake just to stay afloat and keep breathing with no prospect of repayment, well...you get my drift!

There's a strange shoot the messenger thing going on though. If anybody criticises what's going on, they are accused of damaging the country. That's why they are using this storm in a teacup to force the point. If people won't invest in Ireland, we can blame Brian Cowen. I would imagine foreign investors would be more willing to come in here if they believed they were dealing with a culture of honesty.
