For real--I am wanting to talk about pet parrots. I have a nifty little guy, he's the center of my attention. So much to ramble on about, so would like some parrot pals. Any takers? (please do not refer me to links and clubs, etc... this is something I want to do here on CS. thanx. Wanna cracker? ha ha)

Many years ago I raised a few hook-bills (parrots) and mostly took in unwanted birds. Had everything from finches and canaries to macaws. Had almost 200 birds on 3 floors of my house. Needless to say, my house was noisy at dawn. I loved it!

laugh ohh I love them, I had two cockateils polly and desi, they were soooo adroable, used to talk away I got desi before polly so I had taught desi to say pretty desi pretty boy, he said it perfectly, then I got polly and before I knew it polly was saying pretty desi pretty boy, it was hilarious..but soon I had polly saying pretty polly pretty girl, and of course desi would follow so they were both saying each others words, they are great pets, low maintanance and great company.....

but poor desi used to hump his perch...uh oh never put them in together for obvious reasons.

Boy I miss those guys blues desi got away and poor polly just died in my hands on mothers day.....I cried and cried..

wonderful. In your country you have an unusual parrot called "Bourke's Parrot (or some say Parakeet). About the same size as a budgie, these cutie pies are, get this, a bright pink! They have a very good personality, usually said to be much more gentler, docile, than the budgerigar. I had the occasion to be around a little Bourke's last Spring. They aren't flighty and elusive; in fact they don't really mind being held, perched on owners finger, shoulder, etc... I thought I wanted one but they are a little spendy and I really wanted a Quaker, so he' s the one who got to come home. teddybear

Parrots and parakeets fly wild around here. I remember sitting at my my mom's table eating breakfast and couples of parrots would fly by, croaking loudly. My uncle gave my mom his parrot to watch over as he couldn't keep it. My grandmother <God rest her soul> taught her to dance and sing...she <the parrot not my grandma>would spread her wings and dance as if she was spreading her skirts, singing "mi pollera, mi pollera, mi pollera es coloraaaa"! Pollera is the skirt of our folk dress here in Panama, and it is made with 10 yards(?) of fabric-

Eventually we had to pass her along, as I was pregnant with my first child and I was under the risk of acquiring toxoplasmosis though the bird, or so I was told. I have many, many really funny stories involving parrots ...wine

I once had a jackdaw fall down my chimney and kept it for a couple of weeks until it had healed. It was amazingly intelligent, but did nothing to assuage the witch rumours already circulating the village about me.

I've also seen a parakeet on my window sill a few years back. Apparantly, some escaped from Kew Gardens, having been originally imported in the Victorian era and now they populate Britain in the wild.

One of the things I like about my casa in Mex, is that I have a giant mango tree outside my bedroom window. When the mangoes are in season, the parrots fly down from the rain forest and settle for a few weeks into the mango trees. Its like a parrot party every morning...Love it wine

Now you know why people say "parecen pericos en palo de mango!" (you sound like parakeets on a mango tree!)when there's a large group of girls all yappin' at the same time! that's what all of us cousins together sound like on Christmas Day...
