This year I'm gonna be 40. It seems that a lot of people have a lot of trouble turning 30 let alone 40. For myself, I have never felt better, physically, mentally and spiritually I've come to a point that I feel really great.
I've seen lots of discussions here at the forum that age shouldn't matter and that it is just a number. And I totally agree.... But I'm really wondering then why people have so much trouble turning older.

You then come to realise that you are no longer immortal.

When my time on this planet is done, I hope to have made at least one ripple.

That's for sure because getting older means also loosing more loved ones.

But by 40 you might still have 50 years left... that is an awful long time of feeling old. Heck I might not even be half way of my life or it might be over tomorrow. We don't know. So, we should just try to live it the most enjoyable we can.....yay

Hi there, shyatfirst 40 isn't so bad. I'll be 55 on my next one, and i am trying to age as gracefully as possible. I feel great and i have a lot left to do. The older you get the more freedom you have. I try not to think about it too much. I am way too young to be old.rolling on the floor laughing

When I turned 30 I was busy with a new baby and a complete change of lifestyle so it was a positive turning point in my life. But my 30's zipped by so quickly (huh, what happened?!dunno)all of a sudden I was on the verge of 40 and knew I would have a hard time dealing with it. I just changed my attitude about it and thought, at least I am healthy and youthful, and am finally getting my life together the way I 'should' have when I was in my 20's. I told my friends who were turning 40 the same year, '40 is the new 20'. Maybe not true, but 40 now is definitely not the same as my mom or grandmother's generation. People used to get old (and conservative) very quickly. Aging is a difficult thing, but I do have more confidence now than I used to.

I think after 25, age is just a number. L.

So at 105 years of age, 105 is just a number?

In my opinion, there are many other factors, and mileage may vary, but age effects a great number of things. I'm not saying they're all negatives, like wisdom for instance, but it's not just a number. There are just variables that enter into how the number is applied I suppose.

Hey Gibs,

Your point is well made.

When I said 25 - I was thinking about dating - not aging and wisdom. L.

Some people are wizards at 16 ... You are perhaps talking about life experience ... not wisdomhandshake

at 16 you're brilliant or intelligent or such, wisdom is gained over time, and of course life experience is one source but time plays a signifigant role

What she said!

I'll be 60 at the end of December. Still not interested in the "Growing Up" option. In intend to die Young at an old age.....

Turning 30 was an emotionally memorable experience for me. 40 was a big deal because it was supposed to be. 50 was no big deal. 60 doesn't seem very significant. I feel like the same person I was as a teen, in my 20's, 0r 30's or 40's...Now I don't expect to control the world, nor do I want to. I'm at Peace and life is a Joyous experience!, however many summers I have left! grin
