Anyone suffered from them and lived to tell the tale of how they coped and got rid of them ?

I seem to have developed it over the last few days/weeks. No idea where its come from or why but wish it would go away ! I had them many years ago and they stopped as soon as they started. This time the've come back with a vengance. Perfect timing before my new job starts (that i'm looking forward to and not stressed about at all).

Not nice at all. Quite frightening actually.

When you feel anxiety coming on you must do something to distract you from irrational thinking which will exacerbate attack, play some beautiful music or do a little exercise..wave

Its not easy to think about something else when your heart is pounding out of your chest and your entire body has pins and needles but i'll have a go at anything to get rid

Find your best characteristics and focus upon them and don't forget everyone else is flawed in one way or another. I've never had anxiety attacks but remembering this makes me more confident and harder to intimidate.

I understand that jeff, the trick is to control you're breathing too, place a paper bag over you're mouth and nose and breathe into bag, when first signs of anxiety enter you're mind then is the time to try and distract yourself, what did you do before when you had attacks..

They seemed to just disappear over a few weeks without much effort. This time is different. Can't do the bag thing on my first day at work.
I'll live i think, i have no choice !

I can promise you that nothing bad will happen to you, things seem worse when our self esteem kind of hits rock bottom, this new job is just what you need and believe that good things are going to happen for you,you are going to conquer this anxiety thing just because you can, have a little more faith in yourself and learn to laugh at what ails you,you are an important person with unique qualities and you have the right to a fulfilled happy life...nothing stopping you but you and a wee fear which is irrational, more to do with nerves...thats all..bouquet

Yep thats the one Amity sweetheart, just horrible. Had to go shopping today in the middle of a massive attack. Luckily i had someone there to hold onto. All this sounds silly to someone who hasn't experienced them but they are VERY scary.

I feel your pain Jeff. I have been experiencing panic attacks and generalized anxiety for over 20 years. There is no ryhme or reason to them...at least nothing consistant. I know that there are situations that cause anxiety and prepare myself for them, but the panic attacks can't be planned. Amazingly enough, I life a great life despite all of this. I know the one thing that usually works for me is to "talk myself down"...by this I mean I remind myself that I 'know' this is panic and anxiety, I breathe deeply, and block out everything and everyone around me.

It totally sucks and I know how frightening it can be. comfort

hug

Feel free to write me anytime if you want to talk more about this.
