the animal that I would choose would be a timberwolf. think about how a person would react when they try to burglerise my home or bring harm to me or my family and come face to face with a three foot wolf standing on all fours!
i would like a hybrid half wolf half german shephard . because their excellent temperament . my friend has one their smart and beautiful . but still got that wild animal look in their eyes . half wild . haha.

No, No, NO. Think about this one because the idea sounds good, but this is the reality of that nice idea. A wolf pack has an alpha male and female. Your wolf is not in a pack of wolves. It is in your family pack-You are the alpha male. The job of the alpha male is to be the leader in a threatening situation while the other wolves do what? They get away if they can. Yes, they will help the leader, but instinct is telling them to get out of the conflict. For example- some guy starts breaks into your house and it you vs. them, the chances are the wolf is going to be hiding. This has happened more then once. The wolf will rise to your defense, but you can't say for certain when the wolf instinct is going to do that like you can with a domesticated dog like a german shepard. If you want a guard dog you want one that is going to be there 100% of the time. A wolf will not do that.
Your the Alpha male right? What did you do to assert your dominance to the wolf? This is not a dog where a smack on the noise is going to teach it that your in charge. You have to act like a wolf in doing this because this is the instinctive ritual the wolf is looking for. At some point after the first 6 months to a year and a half later after the wolf is born. When the wolf has down something that you recognize as a challenge to you being the alpha male you have to bite the wolf by the neck hard enough to hold it down until it submits to you. The sign of submission is when it pisses all over your carpet as you have a mouthful of fur. If it does not piss it has not submitted to you and it will never fully recognize you as being in charge. This is just the start of owning a wolf. Do your research on the internet, but be wary of people who tell you there is no problem owning a wolf. The chances are they are breeding them for sale and they are hybrids. So they want to encourage you to buy one. Hybrids still have the wolf mentality in them. I do not care if the animal is 10th generation there is going to be some wolf instinct in them. They are not normal dogs.
Also, call up the city animal shelters around the country and ask them what they do with wolf's or wolf hybrids when they get them. It may have changed since I was working with wolves, but the standard action by a shelter was they would put the animal down that first day they had it. Why? The wolf is in their care because it was a problem somewhere. The animal as a pet is a problem and they will not pass the problem on to someone else They are not meant to be domesticated. Having them as a "Guard Dog" is the same thinking that has gotten the pit bull species in so much trouble. I'm sorry to cancel out you thinking about it, I wish I could have a wolf, but it's not really you "owning" an animal, it is caring for a friend.

Now here's a man who really understands wild life.Well said Med.
yes medsummer excellently written very knowledgeable sir. my friend did have some issues because he has kids and the hybrid didn't bite the children but was acting funny and gave him cause for concern . like the children needed to be below the hybrid dog in the pack which is his family . he did get extremely aggressive with the hybrid dog and bite him and held him down sqeezing him hard. i would suggest anyone with young children not to get the hybrid wolf dog. their temperament and the way he acted around me was good i really liked the animal . also male wolfs will hide being locked up in a cage and hate males while the females are at least approachable even though one almost bite my face off after i walked out of the circle it was chained with a steak in the ground . luckily i just made it out.

Thank you for that! When I read your previous post about your friend having one I thought you were going to be all for owning one. They are so beautiful that how could you not want to have one?
Also, thank you to "bestbefore" and "mikey" for supporting my thoughts.

Good post.
Wolf hybrids are known for being horrible pets.
If somebody got a good wolf hybrid pet, it was the exception to the rule. (A lot of people claim their dog has wolf in it, when it doesn't.)
Wolf hybrids tend to be more like a wolf without fear of men, than a dog.
Dogs don't want to be your best friend, they are driven by alpha pack mentality, wolves are also driven by alpha pack mentality, but more so towards humans, than a domesticated dog.
Take Medsummers advice, and research wolves, and wolf hybrids as pets, and guard dogs before buying one. If you're going to have any breed of K9, from canis lupus, to canis familiaris, you should understand alpha pack mentality; especially if it's going to be big enough to use for protection.
