How did the image of "beauty" come to looking like an overly anorexic 15year old boy? Either, there's a lot of men whom like males, or the people with the most influence prefer women whom look like males-or males, right?dunno Not that we care about their preferences, it's your own personal business...Naturally women are curvy..why ruin that for us!!! Now we have a few generations of women with health problems because of this "ideal" "image"...very mad
If only the parents/caretakers loved their children unconditionally-we would have a World of self-assured individuals telling the imposers to stick it.

I don't think the image of beauty is anything like you're describing, or that males are attracted to females that look like males. I see this thread to be a complaint that some people aren't finding what they're looking for, and seek to blame it on someone else. Many other threads of this nature have been done before, and I suspect this won't be the last one either.

This whole concept of an "ideal female" started with companies looking to sell beauty and health/fitness products. The advertising companies will use any tactic to sell, as that's what they do, and if it means destroying people's self image in the process, then so be it. Money is all that matters to them, and people are dumb enough to buy into it. roll eyes

Keep on believing what Cosmo, Glamour, Good Housekeeping and other such magazines are telling you, and keep buying all those products. laugh

Or you can learn to accept yourself for who you are, and what you're not, and quit blaming "society" for all your problems.

I don't know anyone that wants to date someone with a crappy attitude towards others, or themselves. sad flower

Okay, your opinions is yours, mine is mine. I am not blaming "anyone" or anyone.. I'm just stating what I see around me..The majority frowns on woman with some junk..Like some cannot think and decide for themselves..

I love me and my image, I just happen to be very onpinionated & I also dislike those who adopt others views as their own, get your own individuality and love it, and own it, who care what anyone thinks !! Including you!

So don't assume anything.

I put this out because I am a fan of Portia De Rossi, I had seen her on Oprah, and I was shocked to see an intelligent woman go that low because of the ideal image of fabulous. I'm so glad for Beyonce and other curvy women that have much influence over our girlies whom struggle ...

Cheers to those curvy and not! As long as your healthygrin

I saw that interview. It was amazing to see a young lady who is already a natural beauty, almost kill herself because of remarks made to her about her size. She is an elegant, beautiful, intelligent young lady. It was scary to think that someone like her would end up starving herself because of image expectations and ignorant comments made to her.

kidatheart: It's still advertising to sell a product, just to a different market segment. I don't see Depends trying to sell adult diapers to teenage girls, because they know it won't appeal, or make them money.

I've heard plenty of complaints from "real women", and for the most part, it's because they'll never live up to the unrealistic expectations set by the fashion industry, beauty product companies, or their advertisements, although many do try to.

I have to ask, why? Is it vanity, afraid of growing old, or sideways?

Don't buy into the BS.

I respect what you are saying Kid, and yes Dove is selling their product, but lately I like the idea they have women who look fantastic, wrinkles and all, being used as their spokes models.

Dove has also started some kind of programs for enhancing young girls self esteem. They are selling their product in their ads, but it's not the products I see when I view their ads, it's the beauty of the women of all ages, sizes and colors being used, instead of some super model who's image has been altered (using some program).

I just felt that even though that company is selling their product, (don't ask me what they are), I liked the message about self esteem, and the beauty of women no matter what size, age, shape or color.

Other companies have used similar tactics as well. If they can't sell you their product in hopes of you aspiring to be something different than you are, then they'll sell on the angle where you "identify" with the image they present.

Another way is through your emotions, like GM did with their ad campaigns. Their trucks and cars weren't selling on quality, so they used patriotism and emotion to sell. Ads such as "Like A Rock", with Bob Seger's tune playing in the background, stirred the public and sold.

Anyway, the original idea of the thread was about "skinny" being popular, and what men want. I have to disagree, and thinking about the women my friends are married to, dating, or are attracted to, it's not true. Same for myself, and I don't need a company, no matter what they're selling, to tell me who I should be attracted to.
