Who still enjoys it guilt free ? Who wants to quit ? I quit 22 months ago and have never felt better. However, it took me about 25 tries to succeed.

For those who smoke, please, please stop. A smoker really doesn't enjoy it, he/she is only feeding that part of the brain which has become dependant on nicotine, so it seems pleasurable.

I know people who smoked for a long time that are now having serious health problems. A good friend of my mother is very slowly losing her fight with cancer.

The woman used to see it as only her own business but now, along with dealing with her own death she is dealing with the effect it is having on her aging parents, her husband and children. That must be as hard as the cancer itself.

A big well done to you on winning the fight against the addiction.

Right on paws,
I stopped smoking 13 years ago and how different my life has been since.
Clean air, fresher skin and pleasant smelling clothes and rooms in my home.
I smoked for about 24 years and when I made a decision to stop I flicked a switch in my head and just stopped.

Please, Please, Please, I'm not preaching, but I just flicked a switche on a tuesday and when I woke on wednesday I was an ex-smoker. No desire to go there again.

Smokers just think about it! There are no benefits for you when you smoke. You are just being manipulated by tobacco companies.

Make a positive decision for you, your family and your childern.

Find a way to stop...........it's a better life applause

Good luck to you all. Believe in yourself an step into a new world.

Why not have a look at Alan Carr's easy way to stop smoking.
I am no way associated with Alan Carr in any way. However some of my friends that were very committed to smoking stopped after one Alan Carr meeting/session and have remained off cigarettes since.

Go for it! Go for it!

I have never smoked. If I see a georgous lady with fabolus hair, beautiful eyes, shapely in every way that shapely counts, and she pulls out a cigerett and lights up, I an totaly turned off and not interested. I find it repulsive and my personal gutt response is to question there intellegence. I know that is wrong and there are a lot of very intellegent people who smoke but if you think about it, Cigeretts have more carsonegenic chemicles than any one substance, They are proven to destroy lives not only of the smoker but of all the people around them. How intellegent is it to knowingly and willingly emerse yourself and all your loved ones to that. If someone showed you a pool full of toxic chemical waste and asked you to walk around in it and emerse yourself in it and drink it...... Would you?????????

Maybe Im just being predjudice but it doesent seem like a very intellegent thing to do.

You're right and I feel so dumb for wading in that pool for so many years. The bad news is that the cancer threat starts within the first 2 years of smoking even if you haven't smoked for the past 25 years.

I know how hard it is. It's not will power that wins. It's intelligence. That, you have.

paws4: Alan Carr's book helped me so much.

His book hasnt helped me to give up. We dont have much help in this Country to kick the habit but man! do we get treated like criminals for it.
New Zealand is aiming to be smoke-free by 2025. Its great and I applaude them for it but considering these very same Governments gave us the tools to smoke in the first place is incredibly hypocritical. Smokers are becoming very angry at being treated like outcasts. We all know the dangers, the smell, blah, blah, blah.
I have 5 children and thankfully none of them smoke. I am very liberal with my kids but smoking is one thing I put my foot down about.
The name calling, put downs and snide remarks directed towards smokers is more discusting than the habit.
Perhaps the older generation should be able to continue smoking. If it kills them, then so be it. We know the risks. We need to concentrate on the young and make sure they dont do it.
beer Cheers everyone. Dont get too pissed. You might kill someone.

I'd like to quit and I'm down from a pack a day to half a pack. I don't want to quit for anyone but myself and most of the time, that's the best reason to want too.

Our governments make billions on tobacco taxes, yet only spend 10% on fixing the problem.

Not sure but I know if you can't ween yourself off of it, there is a medication that will actually make you sick if you smoke.

Do you have the name of the medication ? I know in South Africa there is a medication for alcoholics that makes a person violently ill, but I have never heard one for smoking ?
