As an ex-touring cyclist I am a bit obsessed with the weather roll eyes and a few years ago, when we moved out to freezing rural Perthshire, I thought it might be fun to buy a max/min mercury thermometer for outside the kitchen door, so I could see just how freezing it had been during the night.

However, during the last gale, the thermometor was ripped from the wall (despite being screwed to the wall!) and hit the ground with such a force that the mercury has separated, and I can't get it to join up again... there was a whole lot of shakin' goin' on, but it didn't do anything.

Just wondered if anyone had any bright ideas as to if it could be fixed or not. I know that mercury is extremely toxic so I don't want to mess around with it too much, but the glass isn't broken, it's just the mercury has separated.

Any advice would be welcome. I miss seeing how freezing it actually is! snowman snowman2 santa snowglobe cold wave

Thanks teddybear

Wonder how we survived all the stuff we got up to...

I was always getting into trouble for licking the WW1 plaque.... known as the 'Dead Man's Penny'...... that me and my sisters used to play with when we visited my Granny....

These plaques... presented to the families of those who died in WW1.... were made from old weapons melted down....

Anyway, never did me any harm... I lived to tell the tale.... and the Dead Man's Penny now hangs in my hall.... but I don't lick it these days... laugh
