It's their job to investigate. Does it really matter how they do it?

'Getting one over' on the Social Welfare Investigators is not really something to be proud of, IMO.

altho its their right to know whether your in a relationship or not if ur claiming.. not all of those who are, are being supported by their partners and rely heavily on the help they are receiving and are so entitled to it

You can be in a relationship and be on social welfare, unless you applied and are being paid as a single person but you're really cohabiting.

There is no 'entitlement' when it comes to Social Welfare payments.

People may, however, 'qualify' for one depending on their financial, family and personal situations.

Exactly D.

Oh and the inspectors have to ask for permission from head office to use facebook and give reasons. They don't have access to it normally. They can only get access to facebook if there is a report in or some other reason for suspicion, and only for a certain amount of time.

Yes... but a change in circumstances should be notified to their local office. Every client signs a declaration to do this. It's legally binding.

Starting a relationship (excluding marriage), or finishing one has no effect unless co-habitation is involved.

There are different types of payments. Some you can get when living with a partner, some you can't. If someone is living with a partner they should claim the appropriate payment.

Giving false information is a crime, punishable by law. There are court cases every day for welfare fraud. And yes people do get jail sentences and fines.

All for the sake of "beating" the system.

What about a man and a woman sharing a house but not in a relationship. Is that classed as co-habiting..... Just curious.

a girl i used to work with tried to beat the system and failed, she had to pay back the 4000 she had falsely claimed, got 3 months in jail but was released after a week due to over crowding and now has a criminal record. if you ask her was it worth it she will tell you evey time no. i dont claim anything as im not entitled to anything but my sisters do and one of them has been denied her widows pension as they didnt believe she was a widow due to PM results not being officially released to her roll eyes

If s/he was allocated a house from the council I'd guess her T+C's would state than she shouldn't be taking in lodgers or that. If s/he rented the house privately I'm sure the Landlord would be impressed if she was subletting while if s/he had a mortgage then rent from the home would be possibly classed as means or income.
