recently I had my eyes tested and it was deemed I needed reading glasses .. knew I did cos I just could not read tiny print in certain light anymore moping anyway...

I had them tested at Big W Vision because a new store opened in one of my local shopping centres so I thought I would support the new local business. I ordered these lovely purple designer glasses and paid extra for teflon covered lenses so they wouldnt scratch easily.. all up they cost me about $255 which I paid for on the day I had my eye test.

They told me they would be ready in 7-10days (I had the test done on 11th Nov btw) I rang 4 times and called in once and each time I was either fobbed off with not much of an explanation as to why they were not there yet or with a 'date' they would be in and I was assured they would call me and let me know. They did this everytime I rang. My last call was on wednesday last week and I was told they would be in on Monday (6th Dec) so I said I will call in Monday to get them where I was then informed not to call in as they would ring me as they couldnt be sure of the delivery time.. which I accepted as a valid reason.

By Tuesday morning, I still had not received a call about my glasses so as you can imagine I was not happy!! laugh so I sent off an email to their head office in NSW. I kept my cool and was not abusive or angry or threatening and just explained exactly what had been going on etc and expressed my displeasure with the service I had received.

2 hrs later I received a call from the store manager at the local store I went to and and she said my glasses were there and ready to be picked up and she also said they are sorry that I felt I had been fobbed off and was disappointed with the service, went on to explain that because they were a new store they have had a few teething problems and issues with the suppliers and had no permanent store manager until she arrived last week so things would start to improve from now on too which I replied, thats all well and good and I understand there could be teething problems and that wasnt my issue because somethings are out of the control of the business HOWEVER I did think I should not have had to be the one ringing all the time to enquire as to what was going on and to try and find the whereabout of my glasses and I should have been rung BY THEM and given an explanation of why there was a delay and been rung with regular updates when issues were still apparent. She agreed, I said I would come that afternoon to pick up my glasses, which I did.

Today I saw 2 missed calls on my mobile from a NSW number and at first thought it was telemarketers or something. I then received a call from the Big W store manager (as opposed to the Big W Vision store manager) who said he was ringing to enquire if I had picked up the glasses and if I was happy with them, which I was (although I was seriously doubting I would go back to the store again in the future! haha) he then hung up. (So then I assumed the missed calls were from Big W head office.)

45 min later he rings me back and says that to compensate me and to make up for the issues I had experienced they would give me a 2nd pair of glasses up to the value of the first pair.. and I was like.. wow really?.. thats awesome laugh so now I get another pair of glasses to the value of $255 thumbs up peace

so now I will go back again in the future AND recommend them to others cos to me that is really good they are doing that to keep their customers happy grin

Yep, totally agree with everything you said, and it's good to see that you were compensated for being messed around as you were.

Being in retail myself, I always find that COMMUNICATION is the key .. we do our best to follow up on customer orders on a regular basis and ADVISE the customer by phone, should we come across any reasons for delays to our estimated leadtime on orders.

This allows us to put out fires before they start, and for the most part, customers are very appreciative of being kept up to date on the status of their orders. They generally understand that some things are out of our control, and that we quote them an anticipated leadtime in good faith.

It's all part of good customer service. With competition being so fierce between brands and price matching a given, it's quite often how you win out with customers and receive their ongoing loyalty - word of mouth and references being an essential part of a successful business.

You might consider changing your order a bit, instead of getting the "lovely purple designer glasses"! reorder UV treated to protect your eyes from computer screen instead

I have been having problems with reading also blondozchick, but I have put it down to these crappy new light globes, I did an eye test six months ago and I still had perfect vision? With natural light I can read anything! Even the small print? So why are the new light globes forced on us by government no good for reading?
How are our kids copping?

My peeve this week is I finally got the go ahead on the bank loan for the new house, this is my first house buy so I need a little help with the paperwork,
I rang the settlement agent for advice and I am still waiting for the call-back?

Um Shell225, I do my own work on the 4wd, and boat. I trust know one when it comes to my car? Its never misted a beat, but it is getting old now, I may have to give it a wash as its only ten years old

serene56: Shell I've been lucky, as when I moved to this area years ago, the mechanic that was recommended to me turned out to be brilliant

He has a top reputation and everyone knows him. Unfortunately he's winding down his business now, basically retiring, and only working a couple days a week, mostly just doing tune ups and rego checks.

He's recommended another mechanic to me though, and I used him for some fairly major work last year, with no probs at all

I would do anything to have a decent mechanic frustrated

I will give these new guys kudos for the brakes..... cause the time before when I got new brakes the previous guys didnt connect them properly and the next day my brakes FAILED!!!! very mad

Be afraid Serene ... be very afraid. uh oh

I agree that doing your own work is the way to go. I'll be searching for a course in car maintenance in the new year... As I've had a gutfull of BS and bad workmanship.

Yeah.. my car is getting old too, she turns 14 in January.. so I have to start saving for a new one crying before the gearbox explodes and lands in the middle of the highway .. uh oh

OH and YES what is with those lights???? they arent strong enough, and I hate the dodgie shapes that mean my covers dont fit anymore, so now I have ugly bulbs everywhere.

Need to have a mechanic you can trust, especially with the price of parts & labour.

Suppose that's where I am lucky in my job working with mecanics as like today, I just wanted my brakes checked as was a bit unsure about them, so just drve it in and they mechanics checked it for me and all good so no worries.

And lucky for me I have never broken down or need major work on my car as she runs good but all depends on the make and models of ya cars and there is some makes I would never own - mechanics have taught me well wine

I rang up and ordered chinese last night for dinner, asked for 1 small chicken chow mein and 1 small chicked egg fo yung and sent son to pick it up.

When I looked at the order, I had 1 large egg fo yung and 1 large chicken noodle ( not chow mein which I was looking forward to eating) frustrated and cost me $20.00

Was hungry so just ate the egg fo yung as don't like noodles to that extreme and rung shop and told them, got my order completely wrong and wasnt eating it but would return it tomorrow.

So I took it in today, and she was awesome, apoloised as realised he had done my order wrong and gave me $13.00 back.

So I was pleased with that as use that chinese takeaway abit.

Yesterday I was talking with a friend of mine who is a Telstra business customer higher level techie. He recounted how he was helping his friend out at his home and ended up on the 'phone with the telstra call centre in the Phillipines....FOUR hours worth!
He was appalled at the incompetence as well as the disastrous language issue help

Yep, he copped what most of us have to deal with many times a year, and sometimes for days on end. I think he was going to report the incident! Maybe all telstra employers should be forced to go through that!applause

One time, I got such dreadful treatment with no internet and 'phone not working properly for nearly two weeks on my business line, that Telstra in the end offered, with no prompting from me, a credit of $1,000 for all that I went through.wine

so they bloody should. Personally I think Telstra is the pits.

but heres a funny one. I went into Vodaphone about my mobile net, and needed assistance.. as I didnt want to talk to someone from India I thought I'd be safe going to an outlet.

HA HA.. the guy behind the counter was from India, with a thick accent.. he rang the call centre for me, and the Indian guy on the other end asked for my pin #, Indian counter dude gave it to him... phone dude said it was wrong.. then went on to give him the same set of numbers back... rolling on the floor laughing if they cant understand each other.. what bloody hope do any of us Aussie accented people have doh

Oh, that's poetic justice, Shell!laugh

I haven't been able to use my internet mail since having to get another telstra sim card (cos idiot features lost the original one after taking it out at the airport...). I've spent hours on the 'phone to Bumbai and the Phillipines, as well Nokia's Mumbai base. No-one can get it going, and 'phone rejects remote help software. I should go into the store and spend MORE time with someone there, but I can't do it anymore frustrated crying They really need to give a new sim card, or another 'phone. Somethingdoh
