I’ve always thought that it was Russian joke, a classical one, when the authorities standing there supporting gliding down trousers and, staring a most honest stare, with tear in voice, explaining:
“Ladies and …” (it’s rather formal in Russia (translator’s note)) “…and gentlemen! You won’t believe it, but suddenly came winter.”
I came to Sweden 12 years ago, and I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard a Swedish authority standing there supporting his gliding down trousers and, staring the most honest stare, with tear in his voice, explaining:
“Guys and…” (it’s rather informal here in Sweden (translator’s note)) “… and gals! You won’t believe it, but suddenly came winter…”
Looks like the disease is infectious… now the rest of Europe getting it.

Thank you very much!
…though money is one thing, and non-monetary circumstances is another. But you are welcome here, while the snow is still clean. Everything looks like new and cold air is very refreshing.

Thank you! You are very welcome here too. We could think of some housing exchange and that would make less expensive the trips.
Phoenix: Is any of the good folk been snookered by the weather...My mucker was last night offered to be put in a hotel for 5days (by O'Leary's Ryan Scare)..
He told them to stick their offer somewhere, where the sun doesn't shine...
Whats up with EU airline companies...They had all yr to plan for this...
So any horror stories...???
Not sure you can actually blame any specific airline, it is the airport authorities that control who can fly in or out, they are the ones who should have been aware that snow/ice was coming and made provision for it. I was stuck for 2 days at Dublin airport a few years back, less than two inches of snow but only one snow plough by the time it reached the end of the runway, it was covered again

Yep it is the responsability of the airport authorities to make sure that airplanes are able to fly. I believe Heathrow authorities were given a 'warning' by the EU. They really should have been prepared.

Too busy ... making hay while the sun shines... seems like a long, late summer this year with the supposed "El Ninia" weather system we are experiencing... nevertheless Aust is still booming with some of the nouveau riche complaining of higher interest rates( 8% lol)the others are taking advantage of the high $A and frolicking in the European snow
