Reading this thread reminds me of innocence , purity and youth . A fascinating subject , I remember arguing about life on subatomic particles at the age of 16 . Today I can only think of day to day chores , ineptitude of politicians and the widespread corruption in our communities . Keep your mind fresh and pure . It is nice to read your thoughts .
A warm hello to all x

It's pretty amazing to think about isn't it? I've always been fascinated by all that stuff and like hearing the numbers such as you quoted about the number of planets there are.

There are other things that are even more amazing to do with our universe such as how small things are when getting into the field of quantum mechanics, string theory, etc. Did you know that the parts that make up atoms aren't the smallest 'things'? I was taught at school that they were but it isn't the case.

I've had to look this up to remind myself because I forgot a lot of it...Theoretically the smallest 'thing' is a string. So everything is made up to atoms and atoms are made of electrons and neutrons (maybe other things, I can't remember) and each one of those, theoretically, is made up of strings. Each string, if it exists, is a millionth of a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a centimeter big. If an atom were magnified to the size of the solar system, a string would be the size of a tree.

I could write about all this forever, it's sooooo fascinating! Did you know that with strings, there's theoretically up to 12 (or is it 14?) dimensions? Did you know that with string theory, a partical can be in 2 places at the same time? WOW!!!

You're very welcome. I don't think we're allowed to give links here so if you're interested in the subject and want to hear loads more amazing things, do a Google search on "The elegant universe". You'll find a site that has a documentary online that's split into several parts. It's all about String Thoery and is the most amazing documentary I've ever seen. The American Professor who persents it explains everything in a very clear way, so most people can understand it. He talks a alot about the same thing I mentioned plus also other things relating to Quantum Mechanics. You wouldn't believe it, it's the most amazing subject. The documentary talks about other things too, lie how theoretically there could be thousands of other universes taking up the same space as us but that we can't see, and about how theoretically we could go from one place to another by bending space, etc, etc.. He talks about dark matter too, which is apparently what a high percentage of our universe is made up of, yet we know nothing about it! Really cool and interesting.

What I mean is that I might know some of the facts relating to it, but not realise that the emcompersing (I'm sure that's spelt very wrong! My spelling is useless!) name for it is Metaphysics.

the world we live in is tiny compared to vast darkness we know as space. i beleive inthe begining there was one huge planet where all life forms called home then one day it exploded sending debris into space. billions of years later we started to evolve from the organisms sent out with the debris. if there is any chance this did happen then think how many planets out there could have life on them. i just want to add did you know man shares the earth with 4,000 quintillion other living things. thats a 4 with 33 noughts after it.
