It has traditionally been demanded under pain of death or social exclusion but times are a changing. Do you think something deserves respect automatically or does it have to be earned?

Im afraid I dont have respect for religion and Im getting tired of being told that I have to have such - Pat Condell says it better in this vid but I would suggest that if you are religious or easily offended that you do not open this video - thats the new limits of my respect..........

Oh Ali, dont you remember the days when you used to post page after page of the stuff to force us to read - I didnt read it, the only time I have read the Quran was in my spare time at a job I used to do - i find it as corrupt as the bible and born from the same misogynistic embers of truth........

Well this should certainly stir things up around here Trish! An interesting video though I confess to only listening to the first one.

As for me well I have my own thoughts which are just that, and not up for discussion. I have to agree that as a topic it causes more problems than any other subject, and that's just on C.S!handshake

How do you know, I remember you telling me you need no other books - you cannot make a comparison from two evil books of social control - this does not constitute critical thinking....... thankfully you lot are a dying breed, the lot of you - people have had enough of being told how to think by people who live evil lives themselves - a rethink is happening all over the world and you cannot hold back the tides - people are deserting religions in the droves and its not before time!

Religions have lost the plot, they are corrupt and whats more, we are no longer afraid of saying so........

Hi BB, Ive kept quiet for a couple of years on the issue, only joining in other threads here and there but I decided on a change today and will have my say too, if we are going to get inundated with religious threads then we need a bit of balancing out..... thumbs up

Some people like the Vatican gang cannot deserve any respect at all, and not for the content of their nonsense (or insight of the Universe, whatever) but for their actions today and above all before...
So can we not forgive the past?
They would gain more respect if they recognised all their crimes one after the other: wars, looting, persecurtions of races and religions, invasions and massacres of entire continents done in the name of Christ etc..
Probably it would also be a good time to think of what they are truly responsible or not...but they would gain respect at least and of course they would lose many followers gone to the competition..cheers

You are independent to say what ever you want but it can't change the truth ,it can't convert the Truth in the lie .

Islam is a Religion of love peace and hormony,it is a perfect and balaced religion, the base of islam is Quran ,It is an other thing if some fake Muslims are using the islam for thier own benefits but you can get the truth after reading the islamic law .
Quran is anti Evil to bring us on the right way of life
The whole Quran gives us an advance way of life ,a way to success
it gives us a way to spend a successful life full of love and justice wine

Of course we can forgive the past but is it past while they are still shoving 'thou shalts and thou shalt not's' down our throats..... when they start to keep it to themselves, thats when its past...... or better still when it has gone down the same road as all the religions which preceded it....... extinction.....

Trish you are entitled to your views of course. I myself struggle with faith everyday and I have to admit that many many things do not add up.

I see people who possess a blind type of faith and their lives sure seem simpler. Do this do that don't do this don't do that and soon enough you're up in the sky where you belong etc etc.. I envy them in all honesty.

I tend to make a difference between the holy books and the institutions that profess to represent them and instrumentalize them for their own purposes. If the latter are questionable or downright evil at times this doen not mean the former are too.

I know that I usualy post cute and funny pices on this, however I will say that I will respect religion wher it respects everyone else ! . . . . While we are on the subject, don't single out any specific one . The current backlash aginst Muslims and there fanaticism is pale compared to what the other big ones have done in the past centuries. There just newer at it ! ! devil devil devil devil

Religion has been the cause of more war, horror and inhumanity to man than ANY other concept in human history. If there were NO religion this would be a non-issue, not to mention no reason for war. Im always astounded at the human races ability to take the most sacred part of themselves and use it as an excuse to kill one another. And worse, defend their position by tossing around irrelevant religious quotes, thinking that exonerates everything.

Their live 'are' simpler, they dont just seem it, they dont have to think for themselves or be responsible for their own behaviour if they have the cop out option dunno

You may see a difference between the book and the institution but they dont - you struggle with faith, they are blindly led and the predicates are from the holy books of make believe - this however isnt the point of the thread - the question was, is respect deserved or earned and should it be given to those who dont themselves show any i.e the most hated groups of people being atheists and gays, both of whom disagree with the traditionally strong group but who have recently begun to speak out..
