how i admire Stephen Fry for his very brave and honest insight inot the illness that has caused him and thousands of other pain and suffering...all praise to the man who is helping us to understand this little mentioned problem.........more folk than we realise are affected, the famous actors such as richard dryfuess to name but one, are also suffers who are sharing their stories in an attempt to foster understanding of this "unspeakable" illness...not shame on those who suffer but shame on us us do little to understand or tolerate those with mental health problems...

Trouble is it is sympton-less, only the words of sufferers to go by, but there are far to many know-alls who judge people before they know them, so many think its an excuse for skiving or just being lazy and when they comment i think it can make the depressive worse. We live in a society full of competition and greed and i think that all of us suffer from depression from time to time but some of us are lucky to have family and friends to help us through, we are a selfish species at times and some will take pleasure from others downfalls.
I have a very close friend who suffers badly from depression and for good reasons too which i cannot tell, and its the acts of kindness rather than the pills that do the best for her, that was her quote.
Why do we find it hard to just listen and understand when a person is unknowingly calling for help, because we are human, are we really the dominant species ??????????????????

Exactly, isnt it applied to anything though not just depression but even physical illnesses too, there is no community any more, we all live behind closed doors and only go out with blinkers on. I think sometimes to myself about my two little girls and what sort of world are they growing up into, and to be honest it scares me !!

ive spent around 3 years on a daily basis with someone who suffers from manic depression. There mood will change from having a normal converstaion to 5 minutes later saying they want to slit there wrists and far worse. Im not going into to much detail as people judge especially on the forums. I know to much about this illness and scitzophrenia and all i will say is it seriously wrecks lives. To see a grown man holding a baby doll because he lost is baby is a upsetting thing to see. Ive personally saw to much of what a mental illness can do to people and believe me its hard to watch and even harder to know that some are told they will never get better.

just to point out im am not either of the above thats manic or skitzophrenic just things i have seen over a long period of time. i would explain but like i say to many people out there who would judge
