I have a really lovely lava lamp that I have had now for about 3 years, and I use it every evening throughout the darker months. About 3 months ago, I switched it on, and it blew the bulb. I changed the bulb and discovered that it had also blown the 3amp fuse, so replaced that as well, and it came back on. However, since then it has blown the bulb a further two times! I don't know what the problem is, and I am reluctant to put in yet another bulb. It blows the bulb when I turn it on, either using the mains plug or the switch on the lead.

I have had a look for a replacement lava lamp but they are really expensive and are now in very garish colours (which mine isn't).

I have put in the correct bulb and the correct fuse, so I can't understand what the problem is dunno confused

Any suggestions or advice would be welcome.

Thanks teddybear

Ok...will do...thanks. I opened the plug a few weeks ago to replace the fuse and didn't notice anything strange, but will have another look.

It will be a shame if I have to throw it out, as it has sentimental value for me. wave

Have you checked the switch on the lead?

I had a bedside lamp that kept blowing, I checked the main plug and replaced the bulb, it still blew, so I checked inside the lead switch, the problem was there so I replaced the switch.

rolling on the floor laughing maybe we should! my two were only cheap from Argos, but they look beautiful (when they are working! roll eyes doh laugh ) I have noticed the same design (an unusual one for a lava lamp) is now on Amazon and is 3 times the cost!

Thanks for the advice. I will have a look at the plug and the switch thingy, but I have recently been turning it on using the wall socket only, and it still blows confused

Have you tried plugging it in to another socket, the fault may be in the wall socket dunno

Yeah...that's what I am thinking. Am just in the process of moving it now to another socket.

I am not sure if a single socket can go wrong dunno I kind of thought they would be on some sort of circuit, where they are all linked together dunno confused

I have had a wee look in the other one (the identical working one) and although it also has a 30 watt bulb in it, it is a golf ball shaped one, which the one in this lamp isn't. Don't suppose that would make any difference as the replacement bulbs were exactly the same shape and wattage as the old one I took out when it first blew.

I once completely changed the wire on one in desperation and that worked thumbs up
