I am seriously considering moving to the UK. I haven't been there for 19 yrs and would like some advice. Any suggestions on good areas to live; i.e low crime rates, jobs, housing etc. My daughter is a model so will probably find it easy to get work, and my son-in law is in security and speaks 4 languages, he's also rapidly learning English.
I'm not so sure about coping with the weather there, but will probably come home for the winter (it's 18c here this evening and am wearing a sweater, & feel cold!)
Would be nice to hear your suggestions.

Stay where is warm... unless you are moving because you need a job.

Uk has changed a lot in last 20 years and not all for the better in my opinion...

I would suggest trying it out before making a permanent move ...

Modelling work and jobs with languages are probably eaiser to fing in London...

My son lives north of London (not north London)and loves it there. My daughter lives north-east of London and also likes it. I think both are within commutind distance of London. When I lived in UK we all lived in north-east Kent. By the time I left I was pleased to see the bacl of it.
However I have many friends there who enjoy their lives and lifestyles.

There is also a new international terminal for the Eurostar (Ebbsleet) in north east Kent where there my be jobs for multi-lingual people and from that station is only 20 min to central London (modelling jobs) if they have completed all they had planned.

They also had plans for building housing estates due to the increase of people needing housing linked to the new terminal. Not sure how far they have got with everything as I left 3 years ago.

Good luck

Thank you Eaglewoman. I am just so tired of Tenerife. It is a typical tourist island and you get to meet so few people here. Even the English people that live here are constantly on the move and so very shallow-all seem to be running from something! There is so little culture here, unless you are prepared to drive an hour to Santa Cruz, which cuts out the possibility of dinner and a glass or two of wine!
I was debating whether to move to the peninsula and commute to UK. I am into property, and so do not really need to be in UK permanently. I suppose it is just as easy to commute from Madrid when necessary.
Living on a volcano gives you island sickness! My parents are both dead now so I have no reason to stay here, and want to meet more people and do something rather than just passing my time going to the gym and pilates. Oh dear, don't I sound depressing.

I remember the time I lived in Norway. It didn't seem so cold then. Perhaps I am getting old. The heat thins your blood. In the summer we have up to 40c and we all complain about the heat !!

Personaly I wouldn't return to live in UK ... not even if someone paid me and gave me a free house and free food...

I like the chilled pace of life of Spain - but then I am Spanish by birth although had never lived here before (apart from when I was born for 1 year)

Main land Spain has beautiful areas. There are quite a few non Spanish people about so it's easy to have a mixture of friends
from different cultures. Non Spaniards who are attracted to the coast life to tend to have different interest than those who choose to be further inland ... from what I have noticed...

Just returned from 2 weeks in the UK and wouldn't consider moving back. Been in Cyprus for 5 years and love it here and can see the UK has got worse just since I left. Can't comment on the south re jobs etc but in the north everyone looked totally fed up and miserable. It never seemed to get properly light and the weather was literally freezing.

Accommodation has become affordable.
But apartements and houses are still expensive for average earners.

How about moving to Northampton.
A friend of mine is living there.
It is a nice place.

London is just one hour away by train.

Personally I think that your daughter and son-in law should make there own decisions.

Let them stay in Spain, if they want.

I would advise you to go somewhere else but not the Uk it's freezing!Crime rate is slowly going down but London is rough, people are stressed and won't have time for you.I lived there in the past for 10 yrs,i went to try again last Sept but in January i was back in Nice, perfectly speaking French English and Italian didn't help me that much to get a job...things have changed so much.
Good luck,bye.
