After being mealy mouthed in their statements about Mubarak and the uprising in Egypt for over a week, the EU (taking the cue from the USA) have all swung against Mubarak. But then it may be too little, too late. Recently, in Burma after the huge uprising by Buddhist monks which seemed sure to sweep away the generals everything returned to square one. In Iran, three decades ago a popular uprising against the despotism of the Shah was overtaken by an islamic despotism of mullahs. I think almost every citizen of democratic nations who were aware of the developments in Tunisia and Egypt were rooting for the demonstrators.

However, there is one outstanding fact in US/Egypt relations. Captured (supposed) jihadists who couldnt be tortured in the USA were sent by EXTRAORDINARY RENDITION to allied states to be subjected to inhuman torture. The US sent numerous such prisoners to Mubarak's Egypt! And now Obama criticises Mubarak for violating human rights!!!

BY THE WAY THE US IS STILL MAKING EXTRAORDINARY RENDITIONS. I guess Cairo is off that list now.doh
