I am curious as to why adults who have been educated use text speak, if those are the right words when posting threads.

I know I am a little old fashioned, don't knock me, and my spelling and grammar are not as good as should be.

But I really am puzzled by this.

OK when texting using a mobile phone I can see the advantages, but here ?

Peace and love to all

really don't know mariola.

I guess it becomes a new sort of language day by day.

I don't use it, not even in my own language.

There are people who can “see”, if I use the right word, misspelled words, they never, or very seldom, spell wrong. Something one is born with. I think it’s the other side of dyslexia. And of course, there’s every other grade of “seeing” or “not seeing” written text.

As my poor brain ‘s deformed by education, and being of opinion that if you don’t have time with me, then don’t contact me – I don’t like when I see that people do no efforts to spell right, or make abbreviations that I can’t understand. For me it’s like table manners – perhaps you haven’t been taught any as child, but as an adult you do have at least a little feeling that they exist. Why not to try and learn yourself some?

But people have different values, of course…

I guess technology is evolving so quickly, even faster than an agreed correct etiquette for this new medium.
I personally don't mind text speak :) or abbreviations.

I'm so old I don't even use text speak in a text. For some reason it irritates me, perhaps because of all the spelling tests we used to have when I was a child!

Ah perhaps that why I like it then,(lol-sorry can't help myself)

I have a complete, and chronic inability to spell..I did well at school,am well read, have even managed to teach my 3 children to read and write far beyond their age, with great success.
So with text shortenings/abbreviations it is far less noticeable, and I feel trendy rather than moroniclaugh

Thank god for my spell checkuh oh

Many of the people here use (they believe), "Posh Speak".

They speak amongst themselves and to their children in (what they believe) English. It is hilarious to say the least. Just a simple example, they do not discern between making a statement and asking a question. Their reasoning is two fold: to teach English (as if they themselves could) to their children, and to appear upper class.
But what is horrific is the barrage of foreign (Italian mostly) words that are introduced regularly out of context on the media. TV and Radio presenters fall over themselves trying to outdo one another.

It makes me want to cry. My language is going to the dogs. A pity really, it is a very beautiful language.

I prefer not to use text language and what I do is having few friends to write to and do it in a proper manner.

Oh, if you only knew what’s happening to Russian… uh oh

…but after a second thought – there were a very few people I’ve heard speak Russian that I could say they knew the language; the rest (me included) are just users without real knowledge. Perhaps, it’s a global tendency (if that can be to any consolation).

One of my best friends lives in the country-side for at least 6 months every year. And as we’ve used to talk to each other rather often, and then there’s no other option than texting (to phone is too expensive, and she hasn’t internet connection there, and to I’m too lazy to write proper letters too often, and it’s slowly media by modern measures). But she’s former teacher and researcher in Church-Slavic Russian, so I just have to spell properly.

To think that a language says so much about one's identity and then to loose it all out of sheer laziness, or to appear better...makes me sad. sad flower

But of course you wouldn't lie to me, why should you?

But then I never wrote that you lied, I just asked if you really meant that I am a peep, which I assure that I am not.

In any case, permit me to take in jest that which you wrote.
